A Labor of Love: ITC Stone Sans II
Named after its original creator, typeface designer Sumner Stone, the new 24-font ITC Stone® Sans II suite of typefaces expands range of widths and weights offered by the original ITC Stone Sans design.
In his role as lead designer and project director, Sumner Stone collaborated with Jim Wasco of Monotype Imaging and typeface designer Delve Withrington to rework the original ITC Stone Sans design. One of the objectives was to include an expanded range of widths and weights. “These fonts had enjoyed great popularity for many years – during which graphic designers repeatedly asked for more weights and condensed designs in the family,” said Stone. “Their comments were the impetus.”
Ysobel Pro Inspired by Classic Century Schoolbook
According to Monotype Imaging, the new 20-font typeface suite, Ysobel™ Pro (pronounced “Isabel”), is designed for both text and display applications.
Designed by Robin Nicholas, Alice Savoie and Delve Withrington, the Ysobel typefaces are intended primarily for newspaper and periodical copy.
Nicholas notes that the idea for the Ysobel faces started when he was asked to create a custom, updated version of the classic Century Schoolbook typeface, which was designed to be an extremely readable typeface – one that made its appearance in school textbooks beginning in the early 1900s.
Neue Frutiger Typeface Family
Designed by Akira Kobayashi, type director at Linotype, Monotype Imaging’s German-based subsidiary, and type designer Adrian Frutiger, the Neue Frutiger Typeface Family family builds on the original 1977 Frutiger design. Highlights of the new family can be viewed online at www.neuefrutiger.com

Ronald Arnholm's Typographic Tour de Force

Monotype Imaging has added a pair of new typeface families to the ITC legacy suite of fonts. The new seven-font ITC Legacy Square Serif and seven-font ITC Legacy Serif Condensed families, extends the existing ITC Legacy suite to a total of 35 fonts.
Designed by award-winning type designer, Ronald Arnholm, the new ITC Legacy Square Serif and ITC Legacy Serif Condensed fonts area "typographic tour de force,” according to Allan Haley, director of words and letters at Monotype Imaging.
Oxford Advanced Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary to Feature Customized Simplified Chinese Fonts
China Type Design Ltd.has customized a set of Chinese typefaces for the Oxford University Press China for its Simplified Chinese version of the Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary, Seventh Edition. Together, the fonts comprise about 35,000 characters, including customized characters that were added to meet special dictionary usage requirements.
Script Fonts Celebrate National Handwriting Day

Monotype Imaging Expands Its Foundries' Typeface Collections With More Than 100 designs

Debut of New Frutiger Serif Typeface Family
The typeface foundry and subsidiary of Monotype Imaging Holdings Inc., Linotype GmbH, has introduced the Frutiger Serif typeface family, a new 20-font offering was designed by Akira Kobayashi, type director at Linotype, and Adrian Frutiger, who designed the original Frutiger sans serif design along with other popular typeface families including Univers, Avenir and Vectora.
