world text
When I think about type in a global sense, there are many things that come to mind..
Seeing that so many different cultures write in different ways, it’s easy for people judge others just by the particular type they use when communicating. For instance, especially in today’s world, when one sees someone writing in Arabic they are automatically jarred and become overwhelmed with a sense of doubt. However, the shoe could also be worn on the other foot if people who wright in Arabic see someone writing in English. Some people see beauty in other styles of writing, others consider it a flag of aggressive behavior. The different types and fonts used by people all over the world can either amaze the the intelligent or intimidate the simple minded.
What's up with this place?
Not only does political signage amuse me during election time , but the attitudes and tactis of the participants are pretty dam funny as well. It seems as though elections are a manifestation of the fountain of youth considering that it makes fifty and sixty year old men and women behave like they’re five year old children.Everthing from the mud slinging, the backstabbing, the alliances, and the buttons, is reminiscent of days I spent in middle school. Rediculous, isn’t it?
Louisiana the island
When thinking of my home state, Louisiana, I think of it more like an island, seperate from the rest of the country. Our laws, our culture, our politics, are very different from those belonging to the rest of the United States. At times, I also feel that the rest of the country, the federal government especially, sees us in that way as well. It seems as though the only time some of the rest of the country thinks of Louisiana is in relation to “the storm” or the corruption that our state government is known for. Other than the two things I mentioned, no one else in the rest of the country really knows what it’s like in this state.
The parish
Between Orleans and Jefferson both, you would think that these people would get their stuff together when considering civil engineering and what not. It seems like they’ve been working on the same section of the I-10 for the last fifteen years at least! They widen the 6-10 split..a year later, they’re shutting it down to widen it again. I’ve got an idea...how about they make it really big, one time, and then never have to worry about it again!
Another thing that makes New Orleans unique is the way they position street signs! If you’re going down a one way, the signs that tell you what street you’re on are positioned so that only the people going the opposite way can tell what street they’re on (that is, if they’re even there.)
The 4th..
It’ll be interesting to see what tomorrow brings in the lines of design....
Choreographed fireworks are always pretty interesting... and don’t forget your American flag top hats.
Tattoo art
I’ve always been a fan of tattoo art. Not the spring break, “o my god, I’m so wasted” tattoo art, but the finely tuned, detailed stuff. When looking at it from a design perspective, you may one to check out a guy named Sailor Jerry. Jerry was the original, old school tattooer. Although simple, a lot of his stuff is interesting..

Type and design of downtown NOLA
Whenever I go downtown, to the cbd actually, I tend to get overwhelmed by the crowds, the traffic, and the impending sense of doom that generally comes along with visiting the crime capital of the United States. Over the past week, however, I’ve made it a point to head out there for some daytime visits. I approached my adventures more as a tourist rather than a native, attempting to throw out all previous knowledge that swirls in my head when considering even venturing there. By clearing my head and becoming and observer I noticed many different things about my city that I had not noticed before.
