Zappos website
I happen to love this open letter to the Zappos CEO regrading the company website.
Might be old to some, but I just found it.
New Logo designs
http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work/article/107520/whats-in-a-new-logo....
New logos make me feel fuzzy and warm - unless they're ugly!
I do find it interesting, however, that many well-known brands are currently rebranding themselves. I think it's in part of reintroducing themselves in a more competitive (thanks to the recession) market. If you see something thousands of times, it loses its impact, much like the nike logo and mcdonald's arches have become fixtures in our modern culture. We see them too much, and therefore pay less attention. Should this theory hold water, it gives me hope for future endeavors - business always needs graphic designs. ^_^
Tropicana Redesign
"dumbest-moments-in-business" - http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work/article/107261/dumbest-moments-in-b...
Out of 10, the Tropicana redesign was #2!!
>>2. Tropicana's Botched Redesign
Tropicana drinkers, it turns out, are as passionate about packaging as they are about pulp. That's why they rebelled when parent company PepsiCo and consultancy Arnell overhauled the juice line's packaging in January as part of a $35 million branding campaign called "Squeeze."
Tropicana fans said the simplicity of the new design reminded them of store-brand generics. And who wants to be mistaken for a generic consumer?
Font ID
This is probably going to be an easy ID, but I just wanted to make sure I was thinking in the correct direction.
Ideas for the logotype's typeface?
Interesting packaging design
Who knew grocery shopping could yield such interesting designs?
(apologizes for the poor quality of photograph; my cell phone apparently photographs as well as it makes calls >_<)
Type in motion
Motion graphics piece for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the movie (opening credits). A great way to take type to the next level!
Postcard from show

Final postcard design for our show. The opening went really well, and I'm looking forward to doing some more projects in the near future.
Every Day is Exactly the Same

I might put this over my desk to inspire me to always push things to not be the same.
Integration of type and image

Layout Design
Juxtapoz is easily one of my favorite magazines, so I thought I'd post some beautiful layouts. They're not too extreme, which is something I like because you can actually read the articles while not getting bored by too typical layouts.

Dada and Vintage

Both from Design Observer
I like hand-drawn type, but hate the illegibility that can threaten an otherwise personal style. As a result, I love texts that are based on typefaces, but have hand qualities. I love including this technique in my work - taking a typeface and putting my personal hand into it to give it an extra dimension. Both of these pieces have that feeling to them - the feeling of taking a typeface and making it have personal layer.
Your mission...
For a type/visual connection exercise, my teacher suggested we find images of labels and then find a font that we felt corresponded to the word/image.
Interesting assignment. Thought I'd pass it on.

Purchasing Typefaces
I supposed this is a very novice question, but I was curious what the best font bundles are to buy. For example, I was on Emigre's website and was looking at the Mrs. Eaves type bundles. Open type has everything from ligatures to numbers and beyond, but there's a smaller (and less expensive) one without all the ligatures, fractions, etc.
I suppose the question I post is when purchasing a font should you purchase the Open type files or is it best to buy what you need and move forward from there?
Hand made type makes me warm and fuzzy- via Daily Design
Hey, Paper and Type. Let's change this relationship up a bit. Instead of Type always being on Paper, why doesn't Paper make Type?
Hhhhhmmmm???

If you were a preteen girl in the 90's, you know what this comes from.
(for those who don't, it's a Spice Girls song.)
^_^ Oh childhood.
Obsessive Branding
Interesting article about the effects of branding.
Great article on what common products need redesigning. My favorite one/the one I most agree with is #6 Political lawn signs. That's why I'm stoked to be working on a campaign team, designing logo, postcard, letterhead, etc. Should be interesting.
One day I'll make it to my website
I do plan on actually updating my website with my new work, but for now, I love these posters, and I must share them.

For Graphic Design 3, we had to choose a political/social issue and design a poster for both the pro/con sides. Though the posters clearly communicate what I chose, I will tell that sex education was my topic.

Metal Logos - found via Daily Design

Daily Design is a design blog I've been checking out since my first year of graphic design. They post some amazing things, ranging from graphic design to even product design. Definitely an awesome site to check out.
