Type Battle 42: B-R-R-R-R! Winter Type
+3

Let's spin back up a community favorite; the Type Battle! Because there's no better way to refine your craft than to get hands-on.

This week's battle: Winter Type
Do you ever gaze wistfully at snow-capped type on the packaged ice dispenser? Now's your chance to elevate the genre.
Winter brings cold climates and precipitation—rain, snow, ice, sleet. Design five letters of a font that represents winter best.

Winner take all, no holds barred. May the best designer win.

THIS BATTLE ENDS: Friday, 09 December 2016— Midnight PST
Brush off those type drawing skills and get to work! Or perhaps you need some inspiration?

// REQUIREMENTS

- Solution must be typographic and contain five letters in upper or lowercase.
- Letters must be custom drawn. No use of existing fonts!
- Image size: 1100 width x 550 height. 72 dpi
- Color: Black and White
- Format: Optimized PNG, GIF or JPG

*Please try to keep your file sizes to a minimum!

// ABOUT TYPOPHILE TYPE BATTLES

This is your chance to flex your type muscles on a weekly basis. You have one week to create and submit your entry. Anyone may submit a design response to the challenge. You may enter as often as you wish. Post anytime. Critiques and comments are welcome throughout the game, from participants and spectators alike. Smack talk is encouraged.

As with any street battle, there is no panel of judges and no prize — the community decides on merit alone, and you may win the ability to call yourself the best on the block for this challenge.

If this is your first Type Battle, start by looking through some of the previous Type Battles.

A six-letter word, yes, but only five glyphs...

Not too many people know that Typophile is back up and running. No emailing has been sent out to existing users. Would be nice if it was. I stumbled across it coincidentally as I was checking for status from time to time.

This is one of those instances where the contribution alone has more merit than the actual substance, effort or content of the contribution... Trust me on this. (I also know I missed the deadline.)

I tried to make hexagonal letters that look like snowflakes. I made a nice "S", but then got stuck. Sorry! :-(

Thanks everyone for participating! We'll keep these rolling week to week. Late entries are always accepted!

I'm currently working on getting an email blast sent out to all 200,000+ accounts to spread the word that Typophile is back. We've relied purely on social media to get the word out this time around. Felt like the modern-type thing to do :)

Even in this modern age not everyone does social media. :-)

Another Fontark creature
Made without using "copy-paste" at all, all similar parts were created in real time, and the strokes width control is done relatively to a skeletal node. You can see the W's structure for example Here.

It's nice to see this challenge back in play. I just didn't notice it until today. I'll try to come up with something but I'm busy with a challenge from another forum this month.
