I’ll nominate Yves’

I’ll nominate Yves’ 5000th post. The visual humor in this forum is just great. The Mondrian in the gilded frame is another one of my favorites, from the infamous Flairs thread, already mentioned above.

Back on track — looks like

Back on track — looks like the Cereal Box Incident might make it in the list. :-)

And what do you people think of the Alien Porn Occurence?

You’ll have to excuse me for remembering mine more easily. Anyone else feels like adding to the list? I feel like the first guy on the dancefloor, nervously checking the onlookers and hoping somebody would join in so I’d feel less naked and silly

Which isn’t to say his mind wasn’t racing with the possibilities.

It must’ve been super surreal. Armin must have been wondering, “What the hell am I supposed to do with this?”

You’re kidding, right?

It happened on stage during one of the presentations. There were several hundred witnesses. I was there. It got a big laugh, but I’m sure some people didn’t know what the joke was about.

Nope. I did rinse it though. BTW, shortly afterwards Bryony
grinned to me ominously and said: “Oh, this can’t stop here.”
Which is, of course, why I’ll be skipping TypeCon this year.

Let it now be duly recorded that the plunger in question (my actual personal plunger until that point in time) was gifted to Armin onstage at TypeCon 2004.

Definitely the one where everyone started posting type jokes! That should definitely be a one of the “best of”.

And remember the one where Armin had a funny freudian dream about Hrant?

Hrant (Yves already knows

Hrant (Yves already knows this) as a moderator Yves can promote a thread to the home page to appear in the “Handpicked” column. That would be a great way to push the good ones to the surface.

___
Stephen, the moderator posts were not properly batch processed along with all the rest of the users’ info and posts. The same thing happened to Tiffany. (The people responsible have been sacked and those responsible for sacking them have also been sacked.) We’re assured that Step Hen is not forever lost...

> the first mention of the

> the first mention of the infamous Step Hen

That was me. But I think I intercapped it -“StepHen”- and that makes it harder to find? So maybe try searching on “stephen” + “hhp” from around 2.5 years ago. Or maybe it was “Step-Hen”, since I love hyphens to much.

Missing stuff: my guess is the system processed mine, then it needed a vacation. Seriously, I’ve noticed that posts from anonymous users for one seem to be missing; but that doesn’t explain Stephen’s missing stuff. Maybe it has to do with having multiple login accounts? I’ve always had this one, but I remember early on (like maybe 3.5 years ago) there was some sort of purge and most people created new accounts (thereby exagerating my [relative] post-count even more...) and maybe the system only revives posts of currently registered users?

hhp

Best of Type-ID (Pssst, Yves)

For a while now I haven’t followed the Type-ID section at all. One reason is that helps me spend less time on Typophile, but another is that I feel inadequate in the company of the planet’s best font hounds! But I have noticed (through the [old] search facility) that some ID threads evolve into quite interesting discussions, ones I’d love to be exposed to. And I suspect a few others are in my position, so I have a suggestion:

Could we have a Best of Type-ID compilation? It would include threads with juicy discussion but also exceptional cases of font sleuthing, and maybe great humor, etc. Assuming Yves is willing to spend any time on something like this, what would reduce his load a lot would be if people (especially the pack of alpha hounds*) nominated memorable threads, or even divvied up chronological chunks** of all the ID threads and went through them. It could be a long-term thing, as people have the time.

* In fact one of the alphas could be the project kahuna instead of Yves.

** You could give me a chunk too.

hhp
