 <description>&lt;p&gt;I think this is come from the calligraphic technic. Make a test, use a large ink pen and work at an angle of 45 degrees,  by drawing figure 4 you will have a narrower line for the diagonal than the vertical or horizontal one.&lt;/p&gt;
