I second Paul’s

I second Paul’s sentiment.

There are appropriate contexts for a really obvious logomark, and a music publisher is not one of them. So many of the most successful marks are non sequitors - a little girl with an umbrella for salt, a peacock for a TV news station, a shell for a gas station, a ribbon for flour, an apple for computers, the list goes on and on and on.

When the name is not obvious and/or the concept is hard to grasp, then some kind of explanatory or illustrative logomark is definitely called for, but a music publisher is hardly a difficult concept.

Good luck!

by not using a play button.

what about one giant play

what about one giant play button? if you have too many arrows I’ll end up mistaking it for Dance Dance Revolution!

I also think of words like:

mixdown
download
play
publish
mix
collaborate
distribute

When you try too hard to make a B,W,P as two play buttons I read the glyphs as: play, uspdie-down-mountain, play. Probably not what you intended.

I like the play button concept, I’d like to see more along those lines. How can you present a sturdy, scalable, monochrome play button in a way that’s both instantly recognizable, yet fresh and creative.

Boy Wonder ... superhero ... that’s what it relates to.

but yes, definitely keep us posted with where you’re at.

Hey all, thanks for the help

Hey all, thanks for the help and advice . . . ive been really busy with uni work recently so I’ve advised the client that this project be put on hold for a couple of weeks. I will be back soon, and will post my results . . thanks again:)

My thoughts in the meantime however . . .

lorem ipsum - i tried building the letterforms out of more than one triangle, but it jsut seems confusing and the shapes loses their rhythm.

nvhladek - The p is necessary, because there is a sister company called Boy Wonder Records, and they need to be differentiated between.

Ratbaggy - I have mentioned to the client about using similar concepts for both company logos, with small changes to identify, and he seems open to the idea. I like the idea of quality that comes with the ribbon shape, but not sure if it relates to the company too closely? Ive been experimenting with radio waves etc, and as stated will get back with the ideas:)

had a bit of a throw

had a bit of a throw together play ... using a
similar concept of the W, and agreeing about losing some emphasis on ’Publishing

Once it started forming it struck me as a 1st prize ribbon ... Boy Wonder.

... it perhaps lends itself better to an overall Boy Wonder mark, than being specific to publishing, but since you’re using the word, perhaps the icon is just displayed in a different colour, or some radio signal/waves are added to suggest “broadcasting”

an idea anyway.

:)

care to elaborate on the “They are a company aimed at other media companies, aiming to get their music into adverts, films, games etc ...”

HOW do they want to communicate, WHAT sort of an image is required.

My initial thoughts are that the ’play buttons’ are too generic.

Thanks for the feedback. Boy Wonder Publishing is linked to Bow Wonder Records, so i guess it is necessary to have the P in there to differentiate between them, although i will try experimenting more with the letter forms, thanks for the pointers. Will post back with the results soon . . .

The bottom one works best.

The bottom one works best. Do you need a symbol for ’p’? Do you need the word publishing in the type? I think Boy Wonder <=> BW is a strong enough association. Just another line of experimentation.

Logo for Music Publisher

Been trying a few ideas for Boy Wonder Music Publishers. They are a company aimed at other media companies, aiming to get their music into adverts, films, games etc . . .

I have tried to mess about forming basic letter shapes using equilateral triangles (the ’play’ symbol from mp3/dvd players etc), but it still needs some work. Any help appreciated, thanks!
