Thanks very much for the kind words James. Nice that Anivers has grown on you. That’s a real compliment!

How succesfull it will be has to be seen :-) I’ve timed the release and publicity around it so that I could reach #1 on the Starlets list in order to get mentioned in the Rising Stars July 2008 newsletter. Of course I hope it will hit #1 on the Bestsellers list, but the sales boost from Rising Stars that brought it on second place is allready over. It is going steady now and I hope it will hover somewhere next to Museo in a while.

Anivers is at the time of this posting sitting at number two on the Myfonts Bestsellers chart. Will it wrest the number one ranking from Helvetica Neue?

I reckon yes, no problem. It’s the new champion.

Anivers has grown on me and I like the style now Jos. Congratulations, you have successfully challenged the preeminence of Helvetica! This is great. Success isn’t a big enuff word : ^ )

Yeah! Thanks for spotting katharina. Don’t know how long it will on stay # 1, because I guess Aviano is a very well selling font.

André ... I’ll e-mail you this weekend.

I did a second ’proof’ for Anivers Buivenga BC, with minor changes from previous version.

Happy Anivers -ário . I have got the “Regular”, so far.

That’s a good start ;-) I’ll e-mail you soon.

I especially like the descender of the long s in the upright font, and even more so the tapering of that very desc.!

Thanks! I’m pretty fond of the tapering of that descender (that’s also in the lc f) myself.

great job! looks very neat and I can see quite a few potential uses for this typeface.

Thank you! As a freefont it was my second most popular font with about 10,000 downloads a month and I’ve seen it used in quite a variety of designs. I hope that with the extension of the family this will continue. I have plans to update the family with a (free) bold italic and maybe with small caps for all weights/styles.

Happy Anivers -ário . I have got the “Regular”, so far.

” I don’t understand. In a comix perspective, Avenir is a anti Univers, which makes me (you) think that if they met intentionally or unintentionally they would actually annihilate each other, causing a

Thanks Bert.

iKern is (still) a service. It can’t be purchased or licensed. The font files are reworked by Igino and then send back. It’s not just a push on a button, because many variables are possible. We did some test runs to determin spacing (family wide) and the level (tight <-> loose) of kerning. In the process of the test runs I adjusted character shapes that needed a better fit. In the final release I adjusted a (very few) things manually. iKern makes it own classes for kerning and is extremely flexible. All still (fortunately) has to be judged by the human eye, but when decisions are made, all that is handled by iKern is in optical consistency truly great. For me it was a real time saver. It nearly felt that I only had to draw the glyphs ;-)

I really like the way the diagonally cut-offs in the roman give a sense of flow.

Jos, could you perhaps tell us (more) about the way iKern was used and what benefits that had (I guess there are some, because you must have finished this in a very short time)?
