Letterpress, we were once told, was a thing of the past. Yet, now letterpress is very clearly the focus of renewed enthusiasm. Interest in setting types by hand continues to grow, with an increase in letterpress activity further fuelled by an ongoing concern with visual authenticity. For many, letterpress offers something beyond straightforward graphic reproduction. It offers the means to create hand-made objects of worth.

We have received many queries about using our typefaces on websites and we want to make sure all of our customers have all the necessary tools to work on a wide range of media. Hence TypeTogether has partnered up with four trusted companies that are able to reliably serve our fonts for your websites and provide you with the necessary technical support. We invite you to check out their website and start enjoying TypeTogether's fonts on the web.
Due to several requests and many of you creative types (excuse the pun) not having had time to get round to organising your submissions for our first Type Annual, we've decided to be accommodating and extend the deadline. You now have until November 5 to submit your entries.
We've also added a new judge to our panel. John Bateson, acting Course Director at the UAL MA Graphic branding and identity course
and current Chairman of the Typographic Circle Association will be joining Mark, Coralie, Andy and Fiona.
The Creative Review Type Annual will be published with next February's issue.
Geography meets typography: The world in words. Starting as an experiment, it turned out to be an exciting product. Finally available here: http;//www.typomaps.net
The Typomaps are awarded with the IF Design Award and are nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republik of Germany 2011.
The Typomaps are handset, and not automatically generated by computer program. Thereby we achieved an astonishing closeness to the conventional worldmap. For the type-interessted people: we used the font „Helvetica Neue Black Condensed“.
Crete Rounded... exclusively for web use
Crete Rounded is a tailored version of Crete created specially to serve as corporate typeface for the upcoming type design competition Letter.2. Veronika Burian, the original designer of this award winning typeface, modified terminals and serifs to create two new fonts that deliver a more contemporary and functional appearance than the original Crete. Furthermore, the new styles proved to be surprisingly efficient for web use. For the time being, TypeTogether is making it available exclusively through our webfonts partners.

Where are the idealistic fonts, the artsy fonts, the non fonts, the political fonts, the funny fonts, the difficult fonts, the fonts that do not look like fonts, fonts that are frontiers of new belief?

There are a few things in this world that you will probably never live without: Oxygen, people, and words.
It's this last element - well, typography, if you wanna split hairs - that we're especially interested in this month, and we want to help you learn more about the wonderful, esoteric, magical world of typeface design.
Donald and Liza from Typeradio took the opportunity at the ED-Awards celebrations 2010 in Rotterdam to interview Veronika about her work. She attended the awards ceremony, because TypeTogether received a Gold Medal for Adelle. The interview starts questioning Veronika about religion and then continues to ask how she got to type design, her favourite letter and more.

NEW RELEASE Maiola 2.0
We are proud to announce the new release of Veronika Burian’s multi-award winning Maiola. Originally released in 2005, Maiola was an immediate success. It won the renowned TDC competition in 2004 where it was also recognized as a “judge’s choice”. The update to this beautiful font family includes the addition of over 240 glyphs to the original character set covering Latin A, Cyrillic and Greek. Maiola 2.0 features new ornaments, stylistic alternates, ligatures, superior letters, fractions and more. Furthermore, several glyphs were significantly improved and the kerning was fine tuned for better performance.

Contest to Recognize Websites that Best Integrate Web Fonts is Now Accepting Entries through Nov. 7, 2010
WOBURN, Mass., Sept. 27, 2010 – Monotype Imaging Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: TYPE), a leading global provider of text imaging solutions, is accepting entries through Nov. 7, 2010 for the first Web Font Awards, an international competition designed to recognize websites that incorporate exceptional use of Web fonts. Prizes include two $3,000 cash awards, Apple® iPad® mobile digital devices and various typeface offerings from Monotype Imaging. Winning entries will be determined at a live judging event on Nov. 16, 2010, during the Future of Web Design conference, Nov. 15-17, in New York City.
According to Steve Lee, product marketing manager for Monotype Imaging's creative professional division:
Many Web designers have been asking how Monotype Imaging supports iPhone® and iPad® devices using Fonts.com Web Fonts service. These devices are known for superior display quality, and as our testing and usage have shown, there’s no exception when it comes to Web fonts. The iPhone 4, for example, with its 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi (higher than early laser printers), renders text that is simply stunning. Web fonts really shine when zooming to see content up close, thanks to their amazing sharpness and clarity.
Our approach to Mobile Safari® support can be summed up in two words: simplicity and control.
