ATypI, the global association for type and typography, has appointed
Typevents, a specialist international marketing and event-management
partnership, to deliver secretariat services and conference organisation
on a three-year contract.

Typevents, headquartered in the UK with partners in Canada, France,
Germany and Italy, takes up its duties for ATypI on Monday 18 April.

ATypI President Jean Francois Porchez said:"We selected Typevents from a
field of world-class candidates to help ATypI move forward in developing
excellent services for our members and helping to improve the ATypI
annual conference, which we believe is already the best type-related
event in the world. They are a young and enthusiastic organisation
staffed by experienced people who understand the type and typography
communities."

Typevents partner Dr Shelley Gruendler said "We are delighted to be
working with ATypI and we look forward to the challenge of helping the
organisation move forward and to serving the international type
community." Both Shelley and another of the Typevents partners, Dr
Caroline Archer, hold PhDs in Typography. Other partners
bring extensive experience of type and graphic arts industries together
with excellent marketing, event management, and fundraising experience.

Typevents has been working informally with retiring ATypI Executive
Director Cynthia Batty on handing over organisation of the upcoming
Helsinki ATypI Conference for some time. Ms Batty - a calligrapher,
former ATypI Board member and well-known figure in the type world - is
returning to business management. ATypI vice-president John Hudson said:
"Cynthia stepped in to take on the organisation of the vancouver
conference in 2003 at a critical time for the organisation.
Her energy and professionalism over the past two years have left ATypI
in a much-improved situation. We are very grateful for her work."
