Digital Foundries from Switzerland?
0

¶ I am currently studying the style of the latest typefaces produced in Switzerland. I wish to know other foundries from that country. Thanks in advance.

¶ Here's my selection:
• Optimo
• Swisstypefaces
• Lineto
• Binnenland
• Dinamo
• EuropaType
• Fatype
• Grilli Type
• Letterwerk
• Luzi Type
• MilieuGrotesque
• Nouvelle Noire

I think you should expand the search to Swiss people producing fonts marketed by non-Swiss foundries. Example: Nina Stössinger and her Ernestine.

But Nina for example doesn't make fonts in the contemporary Swiss style. Fortunately. :-)

This sort of thing is always tricky...
Is the purpose to see if there's a correlation between geographic origin and style?

What do you imply? What's your definition of "the contemporary Swiss style"?

Is the purpose to see if there's a correlation between geographic origin and style?

No. It's just a survey about the designers corpus.
I'm expecting a book about it from the school ECAL.

The contemporary Swiss style is the stuff from most of the foundries you list.

Yeah ÉCAL seems like an epicenter of that style, maybe. Don’t forget Ludovic Balland.

Off that style there’s also abclitera.ch.
(And yes, my stuff is also rather different :)

There’s an overview of Swiss type design here: http://www.swisstypedesign.ch/
Not entirely sure how up to date that is now. It does not list foundries but there’s a designer listing: http://www.swisstypedesign.ch/designer/

There’s also just been an issue of Slanted (#23) on Switzerland.

¶ Thank you very much. I enjoy the compact overview of the designers with the 'Verwandte Schriften'.

¶ Read the 'Verwandte Schriften' of ÉCAL teacher François Rappo's Didot Elder
