E. C. Matthews Sign Painting Course 1954

Classification:

I found this type specimen in E. C. Matthews Sign Painting Course 1954. His instruction was for hand painted lettering — I’m curious if anyone knows what font this is based on or if there is any existing font family that is similar?

Comments

Hand lettered alphabets were typically creatures unto themselves, and were not directly based on fonts used for printing.

Letterhead Fonts has an all caps face called Thick and Thin Sans that is very similar to the capital letters in your sample:

I tried in the font identification website http://en.likefont.com and there are 1755 matched fonts in total, and the most similar font is EffectraHeavy Regular.
