Does anyone know whether TypeCon 2005 in New York is actually happening? I was hoping to beat the deadline before the registration fee increases June 1, but it's possible to register anywhere. They have an ad in Print Magazine that lists www.typecon.org, but that domain isn't active.

supposedly it's still on... see this thread:

Thanks. I tried doing a search but I guess it is still beta.

Oddly enough the Typecon 2004 site seems to have all the 2005 info - take a look:

http://www.typecon2004.com/

Hope this helps.

The most up-to-date TypeCon info is always at typecon.com
Registration will be open very soon.

Typecon is suffering from domainitis: the affliction of too many domains.

Hey hey, TypeCon2005 is totally happening!!! Technical difficulties and volunteer time constraints are delaying the registration launch, but we are almost there. There will be at least 2 weeks of early bird registration, no matter when we launch.

David, my copy of our Print mag ad lists our normal URL, typecon.com. Can you doublecheck your copy? It should not say typecon.org.

We only recently acquired the typecon.com domain. Prior to that, we had to use typecon2003.com, typecon2004.com, etc. Now we are able to simplify with one URL for the conference, typecon.com. typecon.net and typecon.org are simply aliases that point to typecon.com.

Let me know if you experience any other weirdness with domains... and remember, http://www.typecon.com is the place with the most current info.

EDITED because I realized I was thinking of the wrong person... sorry!

I booked my room for Wednesday July 20th to Sunday July 24th.
What time on Wednesday should I arrive? and what time on Sunday is the gig officially over?

I was wondering where we might be able to access a list of the available workshops? Or, is that something that will be taken care of once we are at the conference itself?

jason,

"Men who would letterspace lower case would shag sheep" - Frederick Goudy

That is a PC'd up version of this quote.

Hrant,

Does that mean you are going to be there?

ChrisL

No can do, sorry.* :-( I just have a thing for sharing travel deals.

* Unless Microsoft commissions some fonts from me tomorrow...

Dear Tamye Riggs, do you have a press staff ?

Best,
AS

Alessandro, write to Piper Murakami at piperjay[at]mac[dot]com about volunteering. I mean, if that is what you are hinting about. :^)

Oh darn! Sorry you can't make it, Hrant. I will have a beer in your honor. You will be missed.

Typeweek!
NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared July 18-24 to be Type Week in New York because of TypeCon and related activities.

Josh, if you can, make it something you've never had before.

Typeweek! Wow.

*** INFORMATION UPDATE ***

- For those of you who have already paid your membership fee for this year, watch your email box for your registration code.

- For those of you who are using Internet Explorer on a PC we are experience technical difficulties with this browser. You can register -- http://www.sotalink.com/register.html -- but you cannot view the site at this time.

OK Vincent, why is there a picture of a blond women with a napkin under her chin used in your icon? "Inquiring minds want to know"

ChrisL

Ah! :^P Chris, it is a flower, not a napkin.

vince has recently joined the Spice Girls!

Does that mean he'll bring them to TypeCon?

I hope not.

The Spice Girls could be the opening act at one of our parties... or maybe the closing act would be better, late at night after a few cocktails, no one will care.

Or some of us could karaoke to the Spice Girls. =^P

By the way Tamye, congrats on all your efforts (and whomsover else had a hand in it) in getting the TypeCon registration site up and running.
And if you get "The Spice Girls" there, an old unhip geezer like me might even be able to learn who they are :-)

ChrisL

I can see parts of the website... like the workshops section... but other parts look blank (maybe it's because I'm on a Windoze machine right now, using Explorer)... *sigh*

Hrant, I'm sorry you can't make it!

R.

Tamye,

Now that I've been bothering you for months about typecon, i'm having money problems and cant go, so hey, maybe next year. If i'm not still poor.

Lots of nice people worked on the site! We are so happy to have it up and running, even if there are still bugs to work out. (Ricardo, I will email you - the instant message thing here is really flaky.) Eric, after all that, now we don't get to see you in the flesh!!! Come on... dig some money out from the couch cushions and join us :) Hope to see you next year if this year is out of the question.

See the list of everyone who worked on the site: http://www.typecon.com/credits/

You mean these guys (and gals)?

Those would be the ones :)

I've added some pics to the TypeCon group at Flickr and I encourage attendees of past Cons to do the same.

the icon is one of the photos I took in a shoot I recently had with a UK tv presenter and fashion stylist.

The full photo is at : http://www.connare.com/portraits/portraits_content.html

And the white thing is a flower (Arum Lily
'Zantedeschia aethiopica Crowborough') in high res it's subtly separated from the background but not in low res.

I just signed up for the conference and some great workshops! :-)

Tamye, thanks for the info about the Messenger feature... No worries, whenever you have a minute. I imagine you must have your hands full with all the TypeCon preparations.

Vincent, Nice work on your site. The image indeed is much cleaner there. I imagine the full effect with a large print would even be better.

I think I will stick with "White Flower" instead of the Latin tongue twister though. I would need my vocal cords, palette, and uvula rearranged after saying that :-)

ChrisL

Ok. Not to derail this conversation, but I've started a new thread: http://typophile.com/node/13032 -- Let's get this party started early!

When will details about the Main Program events (9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Fri.-Sun.) be available?

Marc, the main program schedule will be available in about a week. If there's anyone in particular that you are interested in, please email me privately, and I'll get you preliminary info.
