House Industries is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and talented lover of typography to draw little letters and make them into unique and innovative working typefaces. Must be a reliable self-starter who can take multiple projects and run with them while working with input from multiple sources. Strong bezier drawing skills, a knowledge of FontLab and willingness to learn proprietary techniques also a must. All House Industries projects are team efforts, so loners, big egos and "artistes" need not apply. Must be willing to relocate to the area and work in our Yorklyn studio, which is a quiet, relaxed setting with few distractions. We will provide relocation assistance. If you are interested, please send a brief synopsis of your qualifications and a few samples of your work to getajob@houseind.com.

Thanks!

Rich

Where is Yorklin globally located?

So, would this (presumably) entry-level person start out actually "drawing little letters", or do they have to do 12 months of kerning and hinting before they can move up the ladder?

I mean, does the team work involve division of labor by task, or by typeface?

-Where is Yorklin globally located?

Rural/suburban area midway between Washington DC and New York in Delaware (USA)

Man - to be in my early twenties and fresh outta college. I would be camping on their doorstep begging for the job.

Rich, good luck. I am sure you will find a perfect fit.

"so loners, big egos and “artistes” need not apply"

Good thing the original "team" doesn't have to apply.

Gerald

Gerald,

Would care to elaborate on your post? I do not know you personally and I don't think any of our other "team" members do either, so I was wondering what experience you had with us that would cause you to make a comment like that.

Rich

Yeah, it's a bit rude, but you did post your job opening in "General Discussion", (which can be a bit rough at times).

So "General Discussion" is also why I (ever curious) asked about how your company divides up the work amongst a team. Care to divulge?

-how your company divides up the work amongst a team

There are eight people currently working in the studio:

-Andy Cruz: Art directs, designs and rallies the troops around his ideas
-Ken Barber: Resident type designer, type director
-Adam Cruz: Paints, mostly in acrylic
-Chris Gardner: Draws, mostly with brush or pen
-Bonde Prang: Catalog design/production, web design
(although I must credit Tal Leming, who has recently struck out on his own, with the amazing layouts of our catalogs for the past few years)
-Lynn Barber: Public Relations, Marketing, Customer Service
-Luong Nguyen: Customer Service, Order Fulfillment
-Rich Roat: Attempts to run the business

Thanks for the insight, Rich.

Well, you don't know me personally (except that passing "hello/hey" in Rome),
but what do you think of me? Maybe Gerald has just been paying attention?
