I'm realizing that part of the problem is resolution/visibility: people want their design to be highly visible, but since screen resolutions are so much lower than your eye, the graphics are made larger than they'd normally be. I know that "the boys" give us zoomed views sometimes, but that seems to be mainly when some type is totally illegible (and probably when one of them isn't on vacation), as opposed to for counteracting the "diluting" effect of low resolution. Maybe next year every shirt should have an automatic zoom of the pritable area(s), preferably provided by the submitter.

30.037 should win

I don't think it's just the charm of the foreign, but I'm not totally sure. I find 30.043 - the Greek, the color, the way the numbers are handled - delightful and satisfying.

I guess we know who designed 30.037

if 30.009 (cleaned up a tad, shrunk) had a whole wack of selections for buyers to personalize it would be really funny.

Imagine people walking all over conferences or whatever. the "down with helvetica" co-worker, passes by the "down with Univers" fact is, we'd all have to buy 5-10 each. Oooo wait a sec, hello foundries, when we buy a font we should all get a t-shirt to say we're down with it on that purchase, yaya - anyway, I like 09

22 is all good and crafty too - I just don't fancy the back.

seems though that alot are all just too telling of the times, that hip vector thang. a year from now, I'll have to hand it down.

...30.043 i am greek and i can assure that
the letters are not correct (if you want to write typophile and not
just use the Symbols on the word "typophile").
Actually it says "tpspopile"

(Blush) Not reading Greek, I only realized after I posted that it is a joke. Looks nice though.

I kind of agree with armin 37 is cool.
43 typolympia?
23 and 24 - uff, who is going to wear those except rpgame freaks and iron maiden fans.

from this section I like 26 best. yellow dont fit me but i like the shapes of the typophile word - very good.

also nice are 27 and 28.

33 is also well-made but this label-sticker thing is just too much.

top ones with bold/heavy "T"s appear kind of clumsy.

Doesn't 30.024 look like a rip-off of 22.004 ?
Better execution of the idea, but it's the same text and both use some sort of fraktur.
And no it's not mine - I haven't sent in a any submissions.

I'm realizing now after looking at 032 that a great opportunity was missed -- we could have had a shirt showing a hen and a waffle looking longingly at each other. Ah, there's always next year.

armin
2.Oct.2003 11.24am

why would a hen desire a waffle? Or viceversa? That would make for a cool IHOP t-shirt though.

It's a little joke about the two moderators of the type id forum. A tad obscure but more connected to the world of typography, I'd wager, than a rooster and a dog.

Unless, of course, the rooster and dog represent the Chinese astrological signs of two famous typophiles. If that is the case, and the designer of the shirt meant the rooster to represent me, since I am indeed a rooster (on the near-cusp of dog, it should be noted), then that shirt is automatically my favorite.

The illustration on the front of
30.001 is technically wrong.
Looks like the person who did it
does not know how hand-composition
is done.

beejay

the Type ID triumvirate would have been represented well by

* a rooster
* a waffle
* a cat

Jared Benson

How about a cat eating a hen pecking at a waffle?

Peter- 30.024 is actually a revision of a design posted on day 19, which, due to administrative delays (yes, me) wasn't posted until after day 24 was already posted (by Joe). They're done by two different designers (USA & Germany) and any similarities are coincidental.

Right on, BJ! By the way, I had the hen on iChat
earlier today and the postman who's supposed to
deliver his Powerbook went missing today. He's
getting fed up with having to borrow other people's
computers all the time, and I can't blame him.

I think 30.066 is a very strong entry: innovative, visually intriguing (two right hands?), somehow moving about the importance of letters in communication.

BTW, what's that RvL font in 055?

72 works alright but is not 3 colored it grey hues considered seperate colors.
