BTW, the trapping is in fact a sure sign that Slimbach didn't make that.

hhp

No, it can't be Amplitude...

hhp

To correct myself: I wanted to wrote "is not done" when I refered to trapping differences, indeed.

just a guess.... Is it Dauphin?

I can't find dauphin to download, but here is a sample link I found with some of the letters...http://www.grafx-design.com/01corel.html

Now I'm starting to get pissed. I'm only here because I have a font I'm itching to throw out for ID, but I'm not good enough to win a turn... But don't any of you feel sorry for me and pass me the answer in private or something, OK?! I'd have to tell.

> Vendetta Light Italic can't be it for the same reason ....

Not to mention that its italic "g" is binocular. On the other hand, Downer does at least understand the value of trapping (even though he still doesn't do it himself).

hhp

ITC Novarese italic?

Hmm, sorry Yves.
I should have asked:
"Is your sample from a Adobe typeface?"

I'd guess FB Proforma, but no...

Bless your heart, Stewf.

wow Yves, very clever, in fact, toooo clever!

As someone who spent no small amount of time looking for all manner of font names having something -- anything -- to do with the word "divine," I feel entitled to say that that was one of the worst clues EVER. I'm flying to Belgium right now just so I can smack you upside the head. Fraterdeus, my serif!

(But I still love you, Yves.)

The joke's on you, waffle-boy. My black eye and bloody nose will heal well before the wedding!

Upon further reflection, though, the cost of flying to Belgium may put a dent in the wedding budget.

Hmm.

OK, well, you just wait until 2005, mister.

> This divine alphabet is by one of our brothers

Oh, I didn't realize the Riddler from Batman was a type freak.

hhp

It is beautiful, but not quite obscure. I thought I'd guess anyway
without checking it out.

Is this from a font available for purchase with US $?

So you have to pay in Kroner or something?

hhp

No, it's just that after the wedding, that's probably the earliest I'll be able to afford to leave the country, aside from the honeymoon, which may or may not be Belgium... :-)

Yves, there's a little bit of this on Coles's www.stewf.com site. I'll bet you that it's from a design by Stefan Hattenbach.

-- Kent.

Dang, now I think I'm seeing this face everywhere I look.

Aha!

It's Nick Cooke's Geetype, dammit!

Whew!

((!sustained applause!))

Well, let me just say that I'm bushed.

(However, I can also confirm that I have become intimately reacquainted with *all* of my type reference materials because of this particular exercise. Good golly.)

I second that emotion, Yves.

Since Stewf is in the middle of transplanting himself halfway around the globe, I wonder whether I have the prerogative of declaring Grant the winner. Or should we wait? Any thoughts?

a scratch in the Yes column, here.

Ok, stay tuned.

I'll dig something up, quick-like.

>> BJ -- is that a pic of you?

nope, just kinda random, from the Google cache...
it made me laugh when I saw it...

:-)

while Grant looks for something for the Type ID water torture...

Carter

That's a keeper!

vendetta light italic

Good ol' Slick Slimbach didn't touch that face.
As for Amplitude, I don't think it has an italic (yet).

Regarding Dauphin, that's the equivalent for Delphin
I presume? It comes very close, but notice that my
sample is more slanted.

Jill, that's Delphin all right and no that's not the
one we're looking for.

Hi Tiff, I'm only here for a short while (Friday night
started 2 hours ago) so I'll get to you straight away:
Vendetta Light Italic can't be it for the same reason
JFP's suggestion Warnock Pro Italic can't be it:
there's a little indent at the corner where the curve
and the straight bit join which my sample doesn't have.

Whew, I was a bit scared I wouldn't be able to come
up with a challenge that was challenging enough. For
once that I win this contest, I'd like to keep it going
for at least a little while. :-)

> Not to mention that its italic "g" is binocular.
That's no "g" in my sample.

Nope, Jill: ITC Novarese Italic also has that treacherous
little indent.

Well Eduardo, ITC's own version looks just the same to me.

BTW Hrant even if you think you're not good enough to
win a turn (hey I thought so too!) you sure as hell
are clever enough to puzzle together the clues...

<ominous>

Nope, you could have guessed that by now. :-)

Same type family, same weight, same fragment size,
same zoom factor, different character (as if you
couldn't tell...} :-)

No more hints for the moment: the Sherlock Holmeses
amongst us who're perspicacious enough can deduct both
the name of the type designer and the foundry from my
previous posts.

> I'd guess FB Proforma, but no...

What's more, Proforma is by Petr van Blokland, which
is the 'wrong' side of the Atlantic.

Yes it is included in the FontBook, so it's not such
a recent typeface.

Yes it can be viewed online at Phil's Fonts, but you
won't find it on MyFonts, Fonts.com nor Veer.

Yes it's from what people use to call an 'independent'
type foundry.

Prospera II Book Italic from Alphabets, Inc.

Haha. Yeah, I thought I'd just take a quick break from my
Sweden move preparations and clean up this tedious mess.

Joking. I wouldn't have a clue if Yves didn't provide those last ones.

Well I'll be damned! 8-O Brill, Stewf! I was just
gearing up to show a portion of the ffi-ligature.

Check my previous clues:
This divine alphabet is by one of our brothers
from the other side of the Atlantic.

designer: Peter Fraterdeus
foundry: Alphabets Inc.

> Bless your heart, Stewf.
> this tedious mess.

Hey, what's the matter with you guys? Was my challenge
not good enough for you? Got tired of it too quickly?

> wow Yves, very clever, in fact, toooo clever!

Well, I'm a firm believer of Barnum's Law. I didn't
want to give it away too easily (that was until the
henster showed up and casually solved this thing).
But hey, it was fun while it lasted. Have at it, Mr.
soon-to-be Swedish dude!

Oooh, Mr. Tough Guy, aren't we? Let's see what the
missus will say when you show up at your wedding
with a black eye and a bloody nose, HA! Come and
get me, make my day. I dare ya, I double-dare ya!

Did you really expect me to post something along the
lines of: "May you all prosper yadda yadda..."?

Because this font may be a wee obscure,
I'll throw an entire glyph at you. Have a go.

stewf id quiz

No, but that's the best thing James has ever done.

Actually, I retract that answer.
