Are my eyes crooked or are the descender of q’s slightly shorter then that of the p’s? It is quite striking with strong serifs such as slab serifs. Try Clarendon for exemple and tell me if you also see this!

Do you mean even if the “q” has full double serifs?

Sample?

Clarendon certainly looks even to me, and in FontLab, the descenders are equal. Are you by any chance looking at this on-screen, where hinting might be screwed up?

Apparently it’s my eyesight. Some poeple see the “p” shorter than the “q”.

Do you mean even if the “q” has full double serifs?

Yes

Are you by any chance looking at this on-screen

No, I was looking at print outs. Maybe I need some descenders correcting glasses!

Hey, maybe it’s due to the bowls of “p”/”q” being different
in designs with stroke stress and/or chirographic ductus?
Except that’s not the case in Clarendon...
