halfway around the globe,

Yep, and it looks like his first attempts to hook up his
laptop and get online has caused a royal mess over there...
:-)

Sorry for the delay...

What a character!

Howzabout dat?

>> Btw, is your nick a play on PJ Harvey?

yes. kinda sorta.

: information nobody really needs :

Harvey is a nickname that stretches back to
2nd grade...a English shortcut for people who couldn't
pronounce my last name, Jaramillo*. Started as Harmi.
Shortened to Harv.

bj, those would be my initials...when I was getting ready to
send Charles Anderson (Chank) some fonts two years ago
October, I was looking for a nickname, so bj harvey was the
obvious choice...Polly Jean, she rocks.

I since learned there are *lots* of bj harveys out there...
a football player, a poet, a councilwoman, a lion tamer...not me, btw.

: feeling stupid to share this stuff :
: resume the Pop Quiz :

{ aaarrgh - double post }

Broadcasting live from ATypI Vancouver....

So, any takers on the current typeface in question?

g.

Nope, sorry Yves. Another blind stab?

Filosofia?
Storm Walbaum?

Nope.
And nope.

I'll post a bit more of the character once I get home. I don't have the source font here at work...

g.

> their last-minute Tee designs in just before deadline.

Excuses. Excuses.

> Can the typeface be viewed on paper?

Without giving too much away, I can say that it does *not* appear in either the first Indie Fonts book or the 1995 International TypeFounders hard cover tome.

Here's a slightly different view of the previous character.

Is there a rule that says if nothing happens for a week anybody can barge in and take over? :->

hhp

There ought to be, eh?

That, or Grant needs to post a few significant clues real soon.

Oh jeeze. All right then, no barging please.

The American-based designer of this face also runs his own publishing firm.

Nope. It's not Fournier the typeface, the typefounder or the printer. The foundry which produced this typeface started in the 1990's.

Elliot Peter Earls?

...started in the 1990's" -

1. t-26 ( Carlos Segura & Scott Smith, 1993) ?

2. Carter ( 1981 co-founder Bitstream; 11 years later

someone might try Red Rooster...which is....(clears throat) offered by Veer.

It looks very Stephenson/Blake-ish, old monotypish, Les Underwood-ish...or maybe not.

can i interject a off-topix statement at this very point..?
how on earth do i change my account image?

Nope. Nope. And nope. Hint: The windy city.

And here's another character to ponder.

Beedle, deedle, dee.

Parma Typewriter by George Thompson.

hhp

Looks like you nailed it Hrant. Nice job.
In case Grant gets persnickety, it's
actually called Parma Type.

No persnicketiness on my part. Well done. I hand off the contest to Hrant.

Cool!
Finally, speed ovepowers quality.

A bonus if anybody figures out why I ran into this font: you'll get the Typophile "Handmade Book" I'll be getting after me. Unless you're on a small atoll in the Indian Ocean.

Notes:
1) Wrong answers will not get a "no". Unless they're wrong in an interesting way.
2) I'll be out of town from this afternoon until Sunday morning. I'll post the whole glyph (or maybe a juicy hint) when I get back if nobody has it by then.

hhp

It's not digital, right?
For now, I guess Caledonia.

Looks a lot like something from Zapf Von Hesse
but I guess that

It is digital, but I think it started as phototype.

No comment on what character that is.

hhp

dante italic?

Hmm, it's still Latin right?
And, is it available for online preview?

Seems like David got it...

>why I ran into this font

I can only guess that you were looking for an 'f' as crippled as Sabon's? If that's right you should send your book to David - I've already got one coming and I'd never in a million year's have found Claridge.

{You won't have to wait until tomorrow morning...}

Yes, David, you have it! Good job.

> you should send your book to David

Maybe if he had just tried to figure it out...

The reason is that in my old Agfa catalog it came right before "Clearface" which [also] has a wonderful "g" in the original metal version, and I was asking about it on the ATypI list... Too obscure, I know.

hhp

easy..
the letter "a" in Hamuel Sans Fiction

just kidding... it was such a hard one for me to see which font this is... so in panic... and frustration i freaked out a bit.

David, is that a partial character or the entire thing?

a partial character

Letter "g" from

FF Beowolf

Melior, "a".

no, Jack

no, Eduardo

Bottom bowl from the ampersand of VGC's Antikva Margaret?

ah ha.

[and the hint that i wanted to post: "Grant needs to know that" (the panose book - you wanted to sell a copy, no?)]

a=m

sorry. d-post.

Both the question and the answer were very impressive.

You guys are too good - I'm outa here!

hhp

Ah, yes... the Panose book. We used to have Antikva Margaret in the old Image Club library as well, I thought it looked rather familiar.

Ok, get it on kids.
