Mikey, The fonts are 2 of my own designs. The text is in “Now Sans Light” and the bold is a new design I just started called “Lozenge”. Lozenge is actually half of an ego/alter-ego pair of fonts that are very similar but one is wonkier and one is more normal—kind of a leftbrain rightbrain thing.
Congratulations and best of luck to your daughter Julia.
You have every right to be proud, papa!
> p.s. — If you’re printing that announcement, I’ll trade you one of my vintage creations come August at TypeCon... deal?
Funny... I already had an item months ago to give you.
Something that you actually wished for in an old post.
No sense guessing, just act surprised! ;-)
Reminds me of my own graduation, which was made a bit uneasy by a fellow grad who decided to thank his mother by writing “THAX MA” in tape on his mortar board.

Nice. Good excuse to use one of your own creations for one of your own creations. Congratulations, Chris.

on a related note, the carnegie mellon university has an awesome collection of swiss poster designs from the last 40 years.

Thierry,
Thank you!
CMU also had some fine swiss poster examples from the 50s and 60s—mostly posters of Armin Hoffman.

Way to go, Chris! Of course, it is your daughter that we should really be congratulating, isn’t it?
8.May.2006 5.06am
Thanks Dan! Yup, she did all the work, I just paid the bills:-)

It’s both, it’s both. And Dad does more than pay the bills, though that’s not exactly small, especially for Carnegie Mellon!

Welcome to the graduated daughters club Chris.
Yes, that’s graduated—not staggered, though that exists too, at least for me.
8.May.2006 2.51pm
Thanks Peter :-)
I still have a son who is graduating high school this year so I still have more to come!

He might have just misspelled “Thanx Ma”, which is already misspelled. Several of the other grads had that on the mortar board. Funny and sad.

Cool bit of a rocket scientist she is eh...to get in there...
