In my opinion Americans have started over-punctuating in the last 15 years or so. This is especially true with commas.

I'm guilty of using too many commas. I find that I use them when I feel a pause in the sentence. In most instances a comma is not needed. :^) Shame on me.
It's taught in school now. I'm always having to clean up things that our marketers have written. Man they are in love with the comma…
Words are like music, you want rhythm changes but not too many or they don't have any impact.
