MS is sending Kevin Larson (ClearType team researcher), Sergey Malkin (VOLT and OpenType Layout engineer) and Andrei Burago (Office Math font guru) - be sure to catch them if you have interest in these areas.
It was a bit too close to the baby's due date. I'm definitely sad to be missing the country delegates meetings, but I'll be at next years conference (if the rumors re. venue can be believed it will be a good one) and will be bringing the family with me.

I hope they are true, for my sake... :->

Oh - yeah, you weren't there were you. That's the last ATypI that I went to. The food was good, as I'm sure you heard. Actually, a lot of the content was good too. On the other hand after Leipzig's content anything would have seemed good... But the city made up for it in such a big way - I've never had such huge blisters from walking.
I'll be staying at Pensão Residencia Roma, close to Restauradores Square. I don't know if there's a pool on the roof (it suddenly felt like The Thing To Crave). Hope there's a sauna though.
Sadly I won't be attending this year.
Sadly for me, that is. YOU'll have fun. ;-)
I was in Lisbon on a Linotype partner conference once... lovely city...

I'm there, too.

Shu, Yves, Jim Greishaber, and myself will be in a hotel down the street (with a pool on the roof). I think you can guess where the party is at.

This time I agree with Stephen about where the party is at. He was so wrong last time.

When's the last time you missed an ATypI conference?

Me too,
Stephen, is Yves rooming with us?
Or are you just in the same hotel, Yves?
See you there!

I once missed a TypeCon for a comparable reason!

Good excuse -- maybe a little too young for travelling and following lectures ... :)
I cannot await walking through the city (until feet hurt).

We took baby #1 with us to ATypI Copenhagen, but she was quite a bit older - six weeks ;-)

Not the longest, but still quite long. I'm arriving from Reading, UK ;^P

Good to hear that! BTW, did you know that Lisbon was built on 7 hills*? You can get very nice views of the city from several scenic lookouts.
-- Lisboa, o Castelo e o Tejo (Tagus river)
-- View of the bridge from Castelo (castle)
-- Lisbon Downtown seen from the castle
-- From São Pedro de Alcântara scenic lookout: Daytime and Nighttime.
-- From Santa Justa elevator
* Castelo, Graça, Monte, Santa Catarina, Penha de França, S. Pedro de Alcântara and Estrela
BTW, don't forget to stop by and have a coffee/tea with Fernando Pessoa. (This place is right by the conference venue)

I guess the other rumor -that contrary to precedent this time
we won't know until way after this coming conference- is false? :-)

I hadn't heard that one! Oh well, maybe ask in a week (or two) ;-)
