Only Mercator I know is this design by Arthur Baker, and it’s certainly no sans serif.

Mercator is very Ludovico degli Arrighi-ish (to my eye), broadpen script with swashes, very calligraphic. Perhaps you’re thinking of Mentor or Mercury?

Diarmuid, do you have a sample of this font?

Mercator was a type designed by Dick Dooijes for Amsterdam (1957-61). It has a nice Q. Dont know about a digital one. And yes, it was sans serif :)

Indeed. It’s shown in ’Dutch Type’, the excellent book by Jan Middendorp.

I’ve been looking for this typeface for ages, myself — let us know if you find anything...

I didn’t see it on the Dutch Type Library Site http://www.dutchtypelibrary.nl/

But in my own collection - I have a Mercator from 1994 - put out by Brenel Informatik GMBH — and it looks like a cross between Eden and Glamour - leaning more towards Eden...

A sample of which Mercator “Sans” would be most helpful.
