NEW! Type ID Pop Quiz V2.1.1 - Intermediate Level
This is how it works:
- A complete glyph is published in the Type ID Pop Quiz.
- Try to identify the typeface. To win, you need to name both the typeface and the weight.
- Show off your knowledge by casually mentioning additional trivia, like who designed it, when and by whom was it (first) published, and other cool stuff to impress your fellow Typophiles with.
- The winner produces a new challenge -- a complete glyph, black on white background, presented in a 288 x 288 pixel square, including a R204G000B00 1 pixel border.
- The person who posts a challenge can't win the next game.
In case of any disputes, I will act as judge, jury and avenging angel of wrath.
If you think this is a little too difficult, maybe try the Entry Level Type ID Pop Quiz first. Too easy? Go to the Expert Level Type ID Pop Quiz.
Good luck everyone, and have fun. ;^)
With respectful thanks to the originator of this utterly useless but highly entertaining waste of time, the often imitated but never duplicated Cheshire Dave.

Et voilà -- rebooted the thread because it was becoming too long and unwieldy.
Here's the new challenge. Not too hard, so experienced type IDers please stay away from this one and go to the Expert Level where you belong, you bunch of hotshots. ;^)
18.Oct.2006 3.21am
I think it's Mr Barnbrook's Delux (cap A).
Seems slightly easy but the expert quiz is very, very tricky (for me, anyway).
18.Oct.2006 6.33am
Hey Chris! Welcome aboard. Long time no hear.
Nick Cooke
18.Oct.2006 6.43am
Good one, Chris! Now you post a slightly more difficult one. ;^)
BTW I know, it always seems too easy when you know the solution, doesn't it? That's psychology for you. :^P
18.Oct.2006 7.58am
OK, BC, should be slightly harder, but not impossible.
Hi Nick, sure you don't mean ‘long time, no beer’?
18.Oct.2006 8.27am
Mmm, quite. Had a sesh with Joe yesterday BTW.
Difficult one... I've no idea what this could be ;^)
Nick Cooke
19.Oct.2006 6.40am
I thought someone might pick up on your little clue there Nick...
19.Oct.2006 8.14am
Softly softly catchee monkey Chris.
Sometimes these things go on for weeks, so just be patient.
Nick Cooke
19.Oct.2006 9.55am
Is it Nick Cooke's Houschka, bold? ;^)
Emiliano Amadei
20.Oct.2006 1.49am
Well done Emiliano. Your turn.
20.Oct.2006 3.17am
Hah! No fair with the hints, Nick! :^P
20.Oct.2006 3.52am
It was a giveaway anyway! Yves, but Chris rubbed it in.
Nick Cooke
20.Oct.2006 4.22am
Thanks for the nice hint! :)
In a few minutes I'll post the next challenge.
Emiliano Amadei
20.Oct.2006 4.57am
I hope this one is not too easy.

20.Oct.2006 7.19am
Well, not everybody knows Houshka has been used for ... errr ... Heineken, isn't it? (I'm no beer drinker, so i wouldn't know for sure.) ;^)
20.Oct.2006 8.14am
I did actually use Houshka as the base for a logo for 'Vodka'. That's Video On Demand Kind-of Advertising. (And I must stress that I didn't come up with the name...)
20.Oct.2006 8.54am
I think it was Grolsch.
Nick Cooke
20.Oct.2006 2.38pm
This looks like Christian Schwartz's Luxury Platinum from House Industries.
21.Oct.2006 4.12am
That's the one. Your turn Riley.
Emiliano Amadei
21.Oct.2006 6.03am

I know but I can't tell, : (

26.Oct.2006 2.23pm
Nobody has a clue?
26.Oct.2006 2.40pm
Was this typeface designed within the EU?
26.Oct.2006 3.12pm
Looks very familiar. :^/
26.Oct.2006 5.01pm
The designer is based within the EU.
26.Oct.2006 10.49pm
Looks British to me. I checked Fontsmith but to no avail.
27.Oct.2006 6.32am
The designer is not British and is not based in the UK.
27.Oct.2006 8.49am
Is this of Scandanavian descent?
27.Oct.2006 12.04pm
Not Scandanavian.
I will say that the designer's name is familiar to Typophiliacs and that this typeface, though not currently, will certainly become her (or his) most used in the next year.

2.Nov.2006 4.18pm
Hmm... No takers? Here's another hint.
An apt alternate name for this might be Times Newer Roman.
3.Nov.2006 12.06am
I think it’s Calibri by Lucas de Groot ;)
3.Nov.2006 5.55am
I think you're right.
Good work.
3.Nov.2006 6.04am
I wouldn’t have nailed it without your hint.
Now it’s on me, isn’t it? Oh my god, I’m so nervous ;)
3.Nov.2006 11.11am
Ok. Here comes the next. I hope it’s not to easy …
6.Nov.2006 4.45am
Morgan Sans from Mário Feliciano. Winner of the 2003 Type Directors Club Type Design Competition. Weight could be the Office Bold Oblique or the Lining Bold Oblique (And the Condensed versions also? I'm not sure)
6.Nov.2006 5.20am
You got it. It’s Morgan Sans Condensed Bold Italic.
Good Job.
6.Nov.2006 5.25am
Danke, Frank.
I am also so excited. I hope it won‘t last too long to post my example. Please be patient.
6.Nov.2006 5.38am
Well, what are your opinions about this one?
6.Nov.2006 7.24am
Need some hints (before I'm off for today)?
Hint1: You won't find it on fontshop.com, MyFonts.com or identifont.com.
Hint2: It is NOT Gridnik from foundrytypes.co.uk, although "the design was heavily influenced by it " – as the designer elucidates.
6.Nov.2006 8.39am
Thanks to the hint this is Blender Pro Thin.
6.Nov.2006 8.42am
Congratulations, D Riley. Blender Pro Thin is it exactly. Designed b Nik Thoenen from Vienna.
It's your turn.
6.Nov.2006 8.59am
I hope this one is easy enough that it does not require a hint.
6.Nov.2006 9.46am
Is it Hightower Text Roman by Tobias Frere-Jones?
6.Nov.2006 10.07am
Yes indeed. Good call.
6.Nov.2006 10.21am
Here we go again
8.Nov.2006 9.31am
Noga Regular?
8.Nov.2006 9.42am
Tadaaaa. You’re right.
8.Nov.2006 9.45am
Next ;)
8.Nov.2006 4.53pm
Looks like Antares which is not yet but soon(?) scheduled for release by DTL.
9.Nov.2006 8.20am
You're right, of course. There are already a couple of fonts of DTL Antares available: http://www.dutchtypelibrary.nl/Nieuws_rdrct.html
Your turn!
