I just wanted to share this neat spread of ’amperzands’ from a book called ’alphabets old & new’ by Lewis Day.

Nice - thanks. What’s with their “z” spelling?

BTW, here’s a really nice one I recently saw in a magazine ad:

{Hmmm, Typophile bug.}

Here’s something else. That was the only page of ’amperzands’ there’s a Cresci lowercase alphabet in here too. I need a copy stand. Pardon the image quality.

Hrant handsome, what was the context?

Eric, your last post the opposite page looks like Euskara maybe of interest to this poster?

It’s from a Saks & Company ad in a magazine. And guess what: it turns out
you can put “saks company” into Google’s image search and it’s in the first hit!

That’s 1920’s or 30’s I guess, I googled “saks & company” and found stock film footage which is head on but the metal relief seems to have gone (or maybe is at another entrance).

If it’s gone, I think I know why - in deference to our mighty new god: Liability. “What if one of the metal letters fell on somebody?” It’s the same sickly reasoning as for removing see-saws from public parks (even though that’s the street sign icon for public parks). After all, kids were dying in droves back when see-saws were allowed... A psychologically emaciated society. “Dude, where’s my country?”
