Where could i find type illustrations? Does anyone know a designer who does word illustrations so i could look at the work they have done.

Check out "Bembo's Zoo" - a book and a site:

Also see traditional Arabic calligraphy, which sometimes uses long -and legible- phrases (often from the Qur'aan) to form pictures of various things (including animals). The book "Arabic Script" by Gabriel Mandel Khan has great examples.

Lastly, our Chris Lozos has a penchant for making pictures (such as his own face) out of letters.

Also of note are designs with repeating letters (usually in a circular arrangement) to form patterns, arguably the most famous being Licko's Hypnopaedia:

And then there's a site that dynamically renders snowflakes (although with 8 sides instead of 6) out of phrases that the user types in:

Alessandro, great refs!
Malka reminds of two other things:
1) Maeda's stuff.
2) The NoFont guy (I forget his name - he is/was on Typophile) who -among other things- rendered cityscapes out of letters.

Uh? I can't see any connection between Malka and Maeda.

Maeda has also done "landscapes" made of letters.

BTW, a very notable -if maybe somewhat peripheral- example is the use of
letterforms to draw the simplest possible thing: a line. The two white lines
on Iran's flag are made of repeating text which says "allaahou akbar",
"god is great": http://flagspot.net/images/i/ir.gif _
Is that classy or what.
