Tex, a geometric blackletter type
Hi guys,
a new typeface in process... Tex is a modular way to texture blackletters and pretends to be a display type. Until now, only have the lowercases, no kerns adjustments and no sure about the “s” and “K” :-) ...
Your comments are always welcome
Cheers

I like its character, too. But each letter has a profoundly northeast direction… each letter’s motion goes toward the upper right corner. I thinnk that you’ll have to work on this. Text is a straight, horizontal line (in most cases ;-) ). The letters would work together in a line of text better if each letter would push the eye forward across the line of text, instead of somewhere on top of where the next letter should be. Does this make sense?

Paul and Dan, Thaks for the support.
Dan, yes you thought really make sense, this movements tends to make the type looks like a litle bit unstable in words with more than one letters “o”, “e” and “c” and its not quite agree with the textura’s stability...
Otherwise, I do not intend to make it totally squared and horizontal... a bit more stability it’s will be welcome, but not the same as we have in the classical texturas. I think that’s little dynamic movement could make it more accurate with the modern display proposes. But you are totally right Dan! Tanks for the advices. I’ll keep it in the process.
Until there, I made some modifications at the character “k” (look at the list above) what do you think guys?
Tanks, guys and keep the coments

Nice. Certainly has potential. Your lowercase “e” bothers me, though. Looking at your “c”, I think you should continue with a thin stroke...it looks like someone snipped a part of your “e” off.

Hi,
I know I’am late on this thread.
First, I do really like this typeface.
As for the k you post on before and after, sorry I prefer the characters white a white space, more easyier to read and more beautiful.
Only an opinion of a beginner

Hi Marc,
we are never late to contribute with someone. I do agree with you, although the new “k” and it’s alternate version loses a little of gothic tradition, they looks more clear and legible.
I’m still working on the other characters, numerals and intend to put some news in a few days.
stay in touch
comments are always welcome!
cheers

Hi evreybody
Here we are again! Some “ductus logic” adjustments on “b,g,q,s,w” and a few numerals, signs, marks, symbols, alternates and diacritics. By the way, the “s” still a problem for me... what do you think guys?
See the new specimen here or into the attachment list above.
Next steps: Caps, ornamented caps and kern adjustments
Comments would be appreciated!

I like the concept very much. However, I would suggest finding a most significant name for the type in order to prevent people from trying searches like +tex +type, etc.

Thanks Madrider,
the name is not definitive yet… any suggestion for it?
I’ll post some news in a few days.

I like it. How about just using close-kerning to solve the problem of it’s horizontal bias? It seems that most of the letters could fit snugly together, especially with the ligatures.
1.Aug.2007 10.05pm
That is the point popluhv! I’ll work on this part in the next days. It seems to be necessary more ligatures than I thought...
By the way, I finally draw the Uppercases and most of characters of the basic set. I did not put the alternates and ligatures yet, but they are already done too.
Beta tests is on the new specimen here
keep the comments guys, it’s always welcomed!
Cheers

Looks great - I am very interested in Blackletters
You have the letters æ and å, but miss Æ,ø and Ø. In blackletters you should also have the long “s” and the German blackletter ligatures would not be harmful.
Keep up the good work
Jens
