Does anybody knows about a beautiful revision of Bodoni? Or a Bodoni inspired type?
I am using Bodoni in a project but could think to get a little modern twist on it.
Bodoni is inherently beautiful. However if your going to choose a 'classical' Bodoni type, the Bitstream Bauer Bodoni is widely accepted one of the most elegant.
For a modern spin on Bodoni, Emigre's Filosophia is a most fabulous choice.
Does it have to be a Bodoni specifically? If you just looking for a classy Bodoni-esque typeface, Andrade Pro from DSType is a nice alternative. It's a touch softer, with fabulous swash and script variants.
Mikey, the article was very helpful, I am curently using Bauer Bodoni, which compared with the FF Bodoni and ITC Bodoni, I think, has more character. The ITC is very beautiful too but it looks more delicate and that's not what I am looking for this project.
About the Andrade Pro, it is also very beautiful but I don't like the capital G.
Thanks guys, I think I will continue with Bauer Bodoni, but at least now I know why.
Still if anyone has other suggestions I think its always fun to take a look at it!
Linotype Gianotten is a nice Bodoni rendition that doesn't get enough press IMO. Perhaps because it doesn't have the word "Bodoni" in its name? Anyway, check it out!
Acanthus is a less "poke-your-eyes-too-sharp" Didot. Akira made his version of a textual Didot but it does go with the Bodoni's- both modern from the same period.
Hi guys, thanks again for the comments. I really think that Linotype Gianotten is beautifull!
I think I will use it, in FF Acanthus I think the contrast between the thick and thin stems is less strong than in Bauer Bodoni, and l like it more dramatic!
Donatora Pro is sweet, but too friendly for this project.
Today i saw a nice Didone in a fontshop-brochure called FF Holmen. I've tried to link to it, but seems it's not yet stored in the fs-database, maybe too new?
Here's a tangent... Anybody here read the book _The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana_ by Umberto Eco? The main character's name is Giambattista Bodoni. Giambattista was a mouthful when he was a kid, so he went by Yambo. Weird, fun book, at least that's what I thought.

ITC Bodoni is one of my faves. I also like Filosofia for its quirky original take on the classic style.

Nick Shinn's Bodoni Egyptian is definitely a modern take, especially considering the popularity of slab serifs these days.

With all of this talk about Kobayashi, why not FF Acanthus? It's a Bodoni cut, with some nice curves. A bit precious, but nice.

Well, if extreme is what you want, why not
Thin Man Giambattista by Manfred Klein? It's more dramatic than Bauer Bodoni, and it's free!

Dan Gale> SFPL or Arepo by Stone foundry. Not Bodonis but take a look anyways. hehehe.

My favorite contemporary didone is the under-appreciated FF Danubia.
