Hi all! I need help understanding how you are meant to use one san serif font with another san serif or serif? I tend to use them in families i.e. for headline I may use Gill Sans and for the bodycopy, i might use Gill Sans Light or Helvetica for headline and Helvetica Nue or Helvetica Neue Light for bodycopy etc but how do I use another typeface instead of choosing from the same family. Please help and how am I meant to understand how to use a serif font with a san serif. Please show me examples. Thanks :)

Well, just for you, there are similarly paired sans and serif combinations like Quadraat and Quadraat Sans, etc. Have a look at this article.

Aside from that, you have to exercise your artistic and typographic sensibilities and pick a pair that work well and look good together.

You might want to take a look at the current Typophile thread called "Sans companion for Galliard."

Ever heard of search?

Faz, the correct term is "sans serif".

hmm...Alessandro Segalini, am I a joke? Or have I got something wrong? *stil a little confused* and yup, sans serif. Thanks :)

Jan, how the hell was I meant to search that?!?!

it's generally done by going to SEARCH and entering some keywords you'd like information on. or, there is always the chicken entrail divination approach.

And here's the chicken you're referring to, right Chuck?

You type “companion for Galliard” into that little field on the top of this page where it says “SEARCH” in front of it.
Then you press the enter-key on your keyboard.
