Typophile Lurkers
I’ve noticed since the changes to Typophile a few weeks ago that there are a lot less lurkers on the site. It used to be that there were thousands online, but I always felt that that was a bit extreme.
Now the numbers say this:

Was the system less accurate before, or has the actual attendance of typophile gone down the crapper?

Hey, Dan, I believe Christian Robertson explained this in another thread, and as soon as I can find it I will point you to it. :-)

Found it: Where did all the Guests go?

Thousands online? That’d be a Google-buy-out size amount of traffic.

You missed that? There’d regularly be something like 2500 people “online” at any moment.

Yeah, it always made me wonder: Wow, that many?

“There’d regularly be something like 2500 people “online””
That’s a crazy amount of traffic for a forum to sustain. Methinks that number wasn’t entirely accurate.

Before I joined, I always figured it was because Typophile came up high in so many google searches I did. If there is something related to fonts, chances are it has been mentioned here.

I’m mostly a lurker, but I did have the good sense to register.

Yeah, if you go to the link I posted above, you’ll find Christian’s explanation — an interesting look at the tech stuff that goes on behind-the-scenes on a website.

By the way: A lurker-icon doesn’t mean automatically that somebody is not registered. The reason can be that the browser is set not to accept cookies. So you’re counted as guest or “lurker” as long as you’re reading, and as registered as soon as you log in to comment.
