There are many fonts that can simulate this.

One that comes to mind is Garner from Letterhead Fonts. With a little distressing, it would come pretty close.

yes I know it is handpainted.. because of the-just-a-little-too-much-space between some of the letters.. like the A and V in LEAVING
and the C in SECTEUR is also a give-away.

however..
there ought to have been some font they have had as model when the made it!?!?

and the German “SIE VERLASSEN....”
at first I thought it was a thin Futura or Helvetica but... NEIN NEIN NEIN

It is for an exhibition I am having in Gothenburg, Sweden next week. it starts September 8 and it is sort of a selfportrait of me as a Berlin Mauer and all these silly walls we people set up/upset or build to shut in/out other people.. so I am rebuilding Der Mauer... but my own Mauer. “I love the wall and the wall loves me” paraphrasing Joseph Beuys.

so know I need to know if it should be DEN or DER in the German line:

so know I am counting on Lex Kominek’s helping me with the handpainting of the sign!

The German word ‘Hinterland’ is quite interesting. It seems to be used in Italian, Spanish and English, too.

and also I love the letter Z... so I always like to squeeze in a Zed wherever I can. : )

that is why I named my first daughter Zoe... which means Life in Greek.
Actually it was spelled Zoë but she doesn’t use the trema (is it called that?) anymore... because here in Sweden they always misspelled it - like this Zöe... so no more dots for Zoe

“Hinterland” is - from the viewpoint of the center of whatever place - what is behind the frontier.
E.g. the “Hinterland” of a city is the belt of smaller villages around it. They all are in relationship to the center (the city), their farmers bring their products to the city’s markets and buy whatever in the cities.

Military-based “Hinterland” is the area behind “The Front”, where e.g. in WW1 all wounded soldiers came first to be taken care of, ammunition-magazines and so on.

In West-Berlin the problem was, that there was only a “Hinterland” from the communist site, but not from the West-Berlin site. There was the city with the wall around it.
Crazy times... and the communist custums was not joking.
