Vintage New York Subway Signs

Hi, Does Anyone know the font used for vintage NY Subway signs dating around 1904 - 1940? I’m trying to create a painting but need to know the exact font type. I’ve attached two images for reference. Many Thanks!

If Johnny Cash were a typeface...

If Johnny Cash were a typeface which would he be? Perhaps something honest, cryptic, charming, humble or brooding?

I’m currently working on a brief based on a typographic portrayal of his ’Man In Black’ so any suggestions on typefaces relating to the song in particular would be great also, although i guess Cash’s personality and the song itself are going to have similar references.

Again, any suggestions welcome.
Cheers

FS Albert in use...

I have extolled the many of virtues of IKEA before, but did you know IKEA has a Swedish food market?

Get your Omega fatty acids from the land of Volvo, ABBA, and people with Legoland haircuts. Try the many seafood products IKEA supplies, particularly salmon fish—as frozen blocks, or cured and spiced as Gravlax filets, even in paste form. This leads me to my little font-in-use discovery:

Abba Seafoods (no relation to the dancing queens) uses FontSmith Albert for their product labeling.
