latin/central american type foundries
Hi all; I have a client in Panama and am interested in potentially using some more localized typefaces. The projects are real estate based.
I’m looking for suggestions for nice type foundries from specifically Panama, but also Central America or Latin America in general.
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I recommend you get in contact with Gabriel Martínez Meave and Leonardo Vázquez who just presented a blindingly diverse display of Mexican made typefaces at TypeCon2007.

Luc Devroye has some pages devoted to the “type scenes” of various countries. Here are the ones he lists for Central and South America:
Argentina
Brazil
Chile
Colombia
Cuba
Mexico
Paraguay
Uruguay
Venezuela

Look at Alejandro LoCelso’s Pampa Type:

He’s Argentine, now based near Puebla, Mexico.

Typokallos, Type-O-Tones is based in Spain, not Central or South America. :-)

Emtype, although based in Barcelona, is the work of Argentinean type designer, Eduardo Manso.
