hello,

I’m in a situation where I need to have a brand critical font expanded into full character sets and other language. The original foundry is unable to take on the extra work, but is open to allowing another party to build it out.

Where would I go to get something like this done?

Does anyone have advice or experience with this kind of situation?

Thanks in advance...

There are several folks who would do that here at Typophile. I would consider doing it depending on the timeline involved, my familiarity the glyphs to be supported etc. I would not be the guy to do the greek or cyrillic for instance.

Don’t forget to consider price :-)

Is forgetting price even remotely likely?

On the other hand for a ’brand critical font’ I would think getting it right would be job #1.

My suggestion would be to find a local independent type designer whose work you respect and commission them to make the adjustments for you. That’s what I do.

Cheers, Si

Hi all
Will for sure be considering price, but for the moment I’m not too tuned in to who the local foundries are (local being regional at the least, since I’m in a smaller center/resort town). I’m also looking for someone with a good knowledge of international font support issues that can guide me through the intricacies of supporting fonts in other languages.

Cheers, Clint

John Hudson and Ross Mills seem likely candidates.

John Hudson of Tiro fame?

Tiro is in BC like Clint.

On the other hand it’s sounding a bit more like what you want is education.

If it’s education you want there is always these to start with:

Also depends on the ’other languages’ - I don’t think any indies have quite the coverage of John, but if you’re looking for help with a lot of languages you may need to talk to an Ascender or a Monotype who have partners around the globe.
