Every time I try to build kerning classes, I get the following error with each class:
<<[WARNING] Start of new pair positioning subtable; some pairs may never be accessed: [A.smcp Aacute.smcp Abreve.smcp Acircumflex.smcp Adieresis.smcp Agrave.smcp Amacron.smcp Aogonek.smcp Aring.smcp Atilde.smcp] [Y.smcp Yacute Ycircumflex Ydieresis] [/Users/chrisL/Library/Application Support/FontLab/Studio 5/Features/fontlab.fea 1226]>>
What do I do now?

Teach typography. Give your students the fonts with no kerning pairs. Tell them that they can only use those fonts for headlines, and imperfect kerning will lead to a failing grade.

Chris, see that thread: http://www.typophile.com/node/37959

I remember that thread, David. I thought I did follow the one-time-per class rule but I will check again.

Try looking at the small cap Y class. I think you want to change it from this
Y.smcp Yacute Ycircumflex Ydieresisto this
Y.smcp Yacute.smcp Ycircumflex.smcp Ydieresis.smcp;^)

Hahaha! Great.
(And if you kern a lot, also try the AFDKO Generate Kern Feature script.)

Thanks, everyone! It wasn't the Y class but I did find a few other misdeeds caused by my attempt to do search and replace functions on some of my other classes. The big screwup though was having OE and oe in 2 classes :-/
I am really getting sloppy-brained in recent months!
I wish There was a good tutorial on FL5 class kerning. Anyone know of one?

Hello Mr Lozos! Meanwhile, all possible troubles have been dealt with on Typophile. What's needed is a summary ... ;-)
I have a little script which checks kern classes for possible overlaps of content, and will update [required since the AFDKO kern feature script now allows for exception classes] and post it tomorrow. Too tired to do it now.

I did!
You can download it here, it is called "Check Kern Classes". If something is wrong with class definitions, it shows a report in the Output Panel.
If you use the AFDKO 2 "Kern Feature Generator" script, you only need to define tags for leftside, rightside and/or exception classes there. Please see the .txt file for details.

Karsten,
Glad you had a good night's rest and hopefully a good hot dinner as well! Thanks, I 'll check it out.
