Patty, my mum is a calligrapher and illustrator who works with watercolor. I’ve been working on an illustrated book with her for about—-two years. She wants to do all the illustrations and all text calligraphy.
This is a piece Lorna did at christmas time a few years ago:
Got to find my Suzy Creamcheese
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Think I’ll go and start my car
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Really dig her; she’s so freaky
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Heard The Heat knows where you are
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Thrity-six twenty-four hips about thirty
I seen a fine laydee an’ I started talkin’ dirty
Boy she looked over at me an’ she raised her thumb
She said, “Jam down the road ya bum bah-bum-bum”
’Coz I’m a wino man
Don’t you know who I am?
I just discovered the liner note for apostrophe(’) that says, “All titles written by Frank Zappa except ’Apostrophe’ and ’Uncle Remus’ :-/
So now that the Holidaze thread is creeping outward into a more generalized word nerd (sry Nick) circus… More song lyrics, but from Bob Pollard this time. Best to all—safe and happy!
This Card is the best! Using Type to make snowflake is such an easy concept but something I would have never thought of. It would be a good concept to create a greeting card that says Let it Snow within the design or even a christmas tree that is made out of Merry Christmas!
Great Design I absolutely love it!
Patty’s is quite a bit more elegant than the other snowflakes—Hand fitting the glyphs with lovely negative spaces is a job for a human eye, not random cycles of programming.
Miaow!-Miaow!
Best wishes and kind regards to all typophilers.
I mean it, duderinos.
Pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
Take a bath I’ll drink the water that you leave
If you should die before ask if you can bring a friend
Pick a flower hold your breath and drift away

Patty, I second Chuck’s comment - your design reminds me of Bembo’s Zoo
It would make a nice animation.

Happy Holidays to all Typophilers!
This was part of my this year’s Christmas card
Letters used are from Finnish greeting Hauskaa Joulua.

Chris, that droplet by your head does have a tendency to look like the tuft of fur at the end of Santa’s hat. Heh. (Make that Ho.)

More primitive than Patty’s design, but a neat flash program: http://typeflake.com/
Happy Christmas to all our Christian friends, and to all:
May the New Year bring you the opportunity to create and receive much beauty.
