Hey Guys,

Looking for a new font with the following specs to use for a Client logotype:

The specs are as follows:

a) Must be a lowercase sans-serif font
b) contemporary
c) similar in look to Frutiger font
d) some distinctive element (maybe in the ascenders/descenders etc)

Any help??

I guess as a designer i have exhausted my ability to look at fonts as for the past 4 days i have been going through FontFont,Emigre,Adobe and Linotype sets....so i a bit saturated..
I was thinking dax or interstate but have overused those altogether so quite keen on something new!

seeming you all are so good with your opinions and feedback was hoping maybe some of you could make suggestions to fonts for this purpose

Links to samples and sites for purchase also appreciarted!!

thanks

Robby

I’m not quite sure what you mean by “similar to Frutiger” because Interstate and FF Dax could be considered very different in style. So I’ll assume your requirements are loose and point you to some underused contemporary sans serifs.

I know you’ve been through FontFont’s library, but you might have missed some less common designs:
FF Zwo
FF Transit
FF Milo
FF Page Sans
FF Plus Sans
FF Max
FF Fago

And from some other foundries:
Parisine
Auto
Region
Maquette
Antenna
Amplitude
Alinea Sans
Presence
Taz III
Spiegel

Stephen

Thank you so much for the long list..
Indeed my FontShop fonts are quite out of date...some of the suggestions you made are Supa!!

Thanks so Much....

I was not referring to Dax and I’state in context of Frutiger....just in terms of the general fact that they are really over used (esp by me!! lol) so was trying to stray away.

to Poms: CorpID seems awesome..though too similar to Frutiger...will give it a go either way.

Thanks so much again for advice given!!!

Are these typefaces suggested by Stephen in the same vein as Frutiger? Because I am looking for something that would be a nice replacement for Frutiger(meaning not overused).

As I stated in my post, most are only loosely related. The most obvious Frutiger alts are:

Myriad
Vialog
FF Transit

I understood they were loosely related, but was not sure on how loosely they were related. I like your suggestion of Vialog as a good substitute.

Sitting at dinner tonight with fellow TypeCon delegate Jon Coltz, I was reminded that Locator is a great modern-day Frutiger.

I was reminded that Locator is a great modern-day Frutiger. I don’t really see the resemblance it just seems that this font is difficult to read as body text. The glyphs seem to run together instead of being distiguishable as a humanistic sans.
