Between Gotham and Matinee

Hi all, my first post here.

I’d like to find a font that reflects the typographic style often used in 1940-1950 european advertising, such as phillips and electrolux. I’m looking at somthing between Gotham and Matinee, Gotham being too sharp and Matinee to smooth and Matinee-like (naturally). Also found in American aviation/war-like prints from the 1940’s.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
David

Hej David,
I assume you’re talking about FF Matinee Gothic. (And btw, here’s a link to Gotham, too.)

Samples really would help.
Something like this: Philips poster from 1951 by A. M. Cassandre? — Corinthian Bold , Century Gothic , Futura.

Or rather this: 17eme Salon Internationale de l’Aviation, 1946 by Paul Colin? — Rhode, Denim Black/Helvetica, MT Grotesque.

Swissair, 1948 by Bernhard Reber? — Tasse/Topic (more), Liquorstore Jazz.
