actually, i go to the main tracker page, not my personal one.
16.Apr.2008 5.23pm
Same here.
16.Apr.2008 5.37pm
Main tracker?
16.Apr.2008 5.48pm
This is what Paul means: http://typophile.com/tracker
This is what I referred to in my email.
16.Apr.2008 5.56pm
main tracker page, as above.

The Poll is updated. Now you can vote for General Tracker.
You know I had never seen that feature? That must be why I didn’t get what you were saying Tiff. Now I really do feel silly. Oh well. Actually part of the reason I came up with the idea for the poll in the 1st place is that I felt like these must be a better way. And sure enough...
16.Apr.2008 6.38pm
That explains it. You should’ve just asked. ;^) Or I could’ve been more clear. ;^)
16.Apr.2008 7.03pm
wow, the Tracker page is great ...
(loved the good ol’ days of e-mail notification pre 5/5/05) :)
also, i’m guessing that most people know that the front page allows you to scroll recent posts (top left arrow), and that clicking on one of the three red boxes shows more of the last message.
for those who don’t, here’s an image. :)
16.Apr.2008 7.16pm
The only thing I don’t like about the main tracker page is that you can’t tell which topic area a discussion is from—it just says “forum topic” for most discussions (unless it’s a poll or article or whatever).
16.Apr.2008 8.14pm
I use the general tracker, and if it’s been a while the ’my user’ tracker.
It would be better if there were a link for the general tracker as there used to be; it seems to have been eliminated in the revision, but it still works. I have put a link on my browser bar, but those who don’t know about it will be in the dark about this useful function—at least useful for addicts!
Also I agree with Mark that the general tracker would be still more useful it it IDed the topic area.

Wow, I am so excited to learn about the general tracker! Seems like it should be prominently linked to you in like 5 different places. ;)

Another General Tracker user reporting for duty, sirs!
17.Apr.2008 7.06am
I generally start with my own tracker page to see threads I am looking for responses from. I then go to the general tracker page for new stuff but I always check the home page at some point to see the hot topics and handpicks. Then again, I am nuts so don’t go by me :-)

2 comments on the tracker (which I use)
- I don’t think it’s readily ’findable’ via the standard navigation (is it?)
- it’d be REALLY nice instead of each entry saying ’FORUM TOPIC’ it would say the specific forum.

For those of you who use the tracker and use Safari: You can place the link to the tracker in your bookmark bar in the first position (far left) and be able to access Typophile with COMMAND-1 very easily. :^D
17.Apr.2008 11.06am
So I am one of the very few ones, they access via RSS.
17.Apr.2008 11.48am
Miss TIffany, that’s funny I’ve had Typophile’s main tracker set to command+1 for years now. I also renamed the bookmark “†” so it’s nice and tidy in the right corner of my toolbar.
17.Apr.2008 12.24pm
The general tracker is news for me also... from where can i access it again?
I usually check the main page only, and i have a sugestion to make: why dont you guys make “opening in another window” option available at the main page? That wold be cool.

The General tracker:
http://typophile.com/tracker
It seem like opening in another window is a browser/user control sort of thing... Maybe I don’t get what you mean.
Nice tip Tiff!
We have 40 or so votes so far. Which makes me wonder: What has been a typical # total of poll votes in the past?
18.Apr.2008 5.18am
I sometimes go to my favorite section via RSS.
18.Apr.2008 6.24am
I always simultaneously open up my user tracker page and the home page. Will change the ho page to the general tracker though in future, I guess. Did not know that function!
18.Apr.2008 10.41am
Even if we don’t get huge numbers on this poll, at least a bunch of us found a new good tool. Although 50 is starting to get there...
:-)
And speaking of good tools; although I have said it before, it’s so useful that I will repeat it. You can put this in your bookmarks URL to make it easy to search Typophile via google. It titled my bookmark “Search Typophile”
javascript:void(q=prompt(’Search%20Typophile:’,”));if(q)void(location.href=’http://www.google.com/search?q=site:typophile.com’+’%20’+escape(q))
You can also simply type “site:typophile.com” into google search and then the phrase you want such as “upright italic” or whatever.
18.Apr.2008 11.05am
>new good tool
Not new, but an old tool that had its link chopped off in the re-design.
18.Apr.2008 12.51pm
I go straight to the Type Identification Board; whaddayaguess? ;^) Sometimes I check the home page after that to see whose birthday I’ve forgotten again. :^/
18.Apr.2008 12.53pm
That is why they call you Troubleman :-)

Thanks, Miss Tiffany and Guerella! I now have a neat T on my bookmarks bar.

I second that. When using Firefox I like to use the middle mouse button: open in new tab, that’s impossible with the current flash homepage.
21.Apr.2008 12.48am
T.: I have missed that possibility too. Generally, even on a design-oriented site: please show your design proficiency with HTML+CSS, flash is such a no-no on the “real” web! :-)
21.Apr.2008 12.09pm
@aszszelp: Have you used Drupal based sites much? You’d be surprised at the level of fairly proficient, hand-coding that went into Typophile. The option is also there for users to simply turn off the Flash in your brower, but there is so little of it on the site that not a whole lot would change. (You’d lose the homepage and header fonts - forums would remain intact).
21.Apr.2008 12.10pm
If anyone has feature requests, please use the feedback link at the bottom of the screen.
:)
22.Apr.2008 3.17am
The headline fonts are fine. I actually groaned and moaned about the homepage :-)
22.Apr.2008 5.55am
I am talking about the homepage as well.
22.Apr.2008 6.02am
I use the general tracker, then the personal tracker, then wonder why there is no email notification...
23.Apr.2008 11.13pm
I RSS it through Feed Demon, that way I can subscribe to individual threads above general posts, and I get told (frequently) there’s too much to read and I really don’t have to. I usually ignore it. :)
I did *not* know about the tracker (sneaky TypoDaemons you!) so I’ll give that a go.
29.Apr.2008 2.12pm
I would like “new window” functionality with the flash bits as well.
Seems like the homepage could be redone using JS instead of flash for the motion. It would make it more accessible for sure. Any volunteers?
29.Apr.2008 2.22pm
Randy I wouldn’t be quite as quick as that to ask for volunteers. Probably Punchcut would be the ones to make such a request. I am sure they will read your suggestion though. My opinion is that flash is pretty ubiquitous now and it is needed for the type in title stuff they are doing. They seem pretty committed to that. So there is no overwhelming reason to go JS.
29.Apr.2008 2.30pm
You’ve been a victim of subtle internet humor. Was joking about the volunteer bit. It would be a lot of work. But if they did do it, the sponsorship type could continue to be flash (SIFR like in the forums so that it would degrade).
Honestly given that the flash is only on the homepage, I don’t think the benefit outweighs the effort required to change it.
I do not want to start a pout session. Typophile is too good for that.
29.Apr.2008 10.18pm
I have my bookmark set too http://typophile.com/forum/23
29.Apr.2008 11.27pm
Count me as poutless! :-)
Hey, we are up to 81 votes! That’s great. There is not much time left I think, so get those votes in while ye may!
11.May.2008 1.27pm
Count me as an RSS user who periodically checks my tracker page to see replies for my participated threads.
Here’s a bit of irony: I think those who access via RSS might not see this poll because “Poll Content” is not part of Typophile’s main RSS feed.
11.May.2008 8.37pm
Stephen, is this something I need to do or can you do it?
11.May.2008 8.55pm
Dunno how.
11.May.2008 8.59pm
Hmmm. I also don’t know. I thought 100% of posts ran through css. I guess the thing to do is ask Christian. No?
12.May.2008 10.26am
I guess not 100% of posts ran through RSS but only the starting posts. Or did you mean 100% of topics? [I use the main one: http://www.typophile.com/rss]
14.May.2008 5.59pm
I also didn’t knew about the “http://typophile.com/tracker”.
I bet I’m going to use often from now on!
