LogoDesign / What do you think?
Hey guys,
i am about to design a logo for a new fashion company called “E8” and would like to ask you which design is better than the other and why? Here are the two layouts:

Thanks for your feedback... Best, Floyd.

take the second one. if you need to justify say what is obvious here. the 8 looks smaller the the e. have you tried the 100 other possibilities? of not do it, if yes fine.
i like it.
all the best, joe

I’m not to keen on it, looks pretty basic to me. Don’t think the name helps either, reminds me of an east london post code. These sort of names are more associated to club names in and around london. But i take it you have no control over the name. . .
It would be nice to see some simple treatment to this marque to spice it up a bit, looks rather bland at the moment.
Perhaps a play on the ’8’

Hmmm.
The first one holds an interesting negative space in-between the E and the 8.
Why did you choose to flip the E?
Its very masculine aswell. When think of fashion i think of feminism...
Keen to see the advancements.....

Try to play with the similarity of the 8 and the E.
Here is an image of what I’m talking about it.

This is looking much better. . .
Is it a Male or Female label? or both?
29.Apr.2008 3.33am
I don’t like the flipped version. They are not called “38”.

i mailed the layout to a couple of people and they all prefer the lower layout > the one with the flipped “E” >> i don’t ,)
i prefer the “regular” version
LUEY: It is a clothing company for both > male and female fashion...

Yes - E8 would be read in London as a reference to Hackney; or as a new boy band along the lines of Walthamstow’s E17..!

Do both digits need to be the same size? If not, there is another whole world opening up. E to the power of 8 is one, using a superscript 8. Not entirely original, but then the first two were not either.

Have you considered using a non-rounded 8, it would make it much easier to play with the shapes of the characters?
and so on.

Nice idea! Something like that? What do you think?

Much more interesting.
Have you also considered playing on the auditory pun of E8 as ’he ate’.
It’s only very rough but something ike this:

Would be interesting to see the brief for this job.
Dont like this square thing going on here. I would exspect to see such a face on my casio digital wrisp watch, not a fashion label or company.
This logo is in desperate need of some sophistication.
Applying that to just a letter and number could prove quite difficult.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that the reason people like the flipped version for a logo ... is cause it immediately strikes them as different ... to the other option you presented.

I’m definitely digging the non-rounded logo.

One thing I’ve found: never, ever present something you don’t like to the client. There’s some kind of secret law that says they’ll always go for your least favorite option. ;)

What about this:
E-eight
Use an ultra fine typeface.
> eeblet : your right about your suggestion ;^)

@eeblet: I call that “The Code of the West” and it is soooo true.

What do you think about “EVIII” instead of “E8”?
3.May.2008 1.18am
OK. New try: How do you like this layout for an “E8” Logo?

And how about these:

flabrea: “male and female fashion...”
Male: tall & trim stature, wirey, like a building,
square-jawed, moustachio (italian letter), a builder, etc.
Female: warm & rounded, shapely, voluptuous,
bold & friendly, orange, hour-glass profile.

How about this? Fashion screams for something slim and graceful, right ;)

Q. How do you show pink without using pink?
A. Don’t use pink. Suggest pink with red. Lips.
Wider eight has woman enveloping man and fashionably attired.
Stylish, romantic, they look like an item.
Wait, this isn’t a dating service.

That’s downright erotic russellm. Could have something.
The drawing board awaits, flabrea.

Russell’s downright erotic design turns my crank too, but looks better-suited to a dating or a networking service. It doesn’t really say ’fashion’ to me.
But still there’s a smile on my face.

Hey Rusell, that logo looks really cool.
I particulary think that it would be an attempt to overlay in different colours the 8 in front of the E as both of the letters have the two cases. It could be playing with pure CMYK colours and applying transparency or opacity to one of them
But, if I would have to choose from the two logos that you have , I´ll go for the first one “E8”

James, Fortunately for all concerened, i’m not pitching this logo to the client for fleabrea. :o)
But, It is kind of fun to play around with the angularity of the E curvyness of the 8.

So you like that layout? ,)

It wasn’t reaction, but resemblance, I was trying to point out.

Russell: “James, Fortunately for all concerened, i’m not pitching this logo to the client for fleabrea. :o)”
But what you came up with is still plenty ineresting in its own right. It has potential for the right client/image. Perfect for a satnav provider or geometric pretzel outfit.
Joe Pemberton, Jared Benson, mods—-what we need here is post tagging; a new Typophile feature that allows users to tag individual posts with keywords. This would make each post functionally independent of the thread it appears on. I’m talking about this as if it already exists.
“But, It is kind of fun to play around with the angularity of the E curvyness of the 8.”
That’s what I was doing too :^)
