Hello,

I am just about to embark on writing an essay regarding the pro’s and con’s of the design grid.
Does anyone know of any interesting books that debates the use of the design grid. Also books on the theories of the design grid, would also be good.

Thanks

RDC

Have you looked at ’the typographic grid’ by H.R.Bossard?

Hello rdc...

You’ll get a much better response from Google and the information that that brings back for you... This question, or similar has been asked far lots of times in these forums, even if we all came back with our opinions, thats all they are, opinions. You’ll be better off looking into the subject and researching it yourself. You’ll learn far more too... In all honesty, there’s nothing better than good ’swiss’ books on the subject.

Best of luck.

Assuming that your school has a library, there’s probably a whole shelf of such books. And there are probably several people sitting behind a desk just waiting to help you find it.

Rez is right. And my first port-of-call would be Josef Muller-Brockmann.

English is not my native language but if someone calls it “the design grid” I think he or she has to elaborate more on what design is (is about). So my opinion is pro.

I know quite a good book called ’making and breaking the grid’
by Timothy Samara.
Also, you may find general typography books useful. Try ’the fundementals of typography’ by Gavin Ambrose and Paul Harris.
