Downloadable webfonts are not just about replacing Verdana with a fancy freeware font.
Here is an example where a certain text phrase is automatically replaced with a scalable vector glyph from a downloadable font. The underlying text stays untouched, so indexing and copy&paste work like a charm.

Edit: changed “graphic” to “glyph”
The Beta version of Adobe Flash Player 10 was just released on Adobe Labs. Among the many enhancements, there is a new Text Engine which comes along with an extensive library of ActionScript 3.0 Text Layout Components. Here’s the blurb from the release notes.

I love a compelling brand story. And before I jump in, I need to confess my ties to the JetBlue brand, having once designed the logo, identity and airplane graphics (ahem, the livery design to use industry parlance) while I was at Merkeley and Partners.
In case anyone missed it, I interviewed Brent Barson, Eric Gillett and Cole Nielsen on Unzipped about the Typophile Film Fest 4 credits.
With spring comes - garage sales! Today I scored a huge stack of art and architectural mags:)! Amongst the stack are some groovtastic Computer Arts Project mags, one of which is CA’s 100th birthday issue. The issue celebrates iconic pieces of graphic design. And there it was - an unwittingly cold cruel typo...

...and in Milton’s own stencil font too :(
Either that, or there really is an iconic graphic designer named MILTON GI ASER.
// THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE:

Option 1: Using a Luchador name of your choice, draw the type that would be used to set your Luchador name onto a Lucha Libre style poster.
Option 2: Draw a set of dingbats that could be used on a Lucha Libre poster.
Bonus points and extra bragging rights for those who do BOTH and/or design a Lucha Libre poster.
