I'm looking for a calligrapher
0

Hey guys, I'm currently working on a project in which we need a calligrapher to write us a small text. The text is to written in a style somewhow similar to this one: http://www.veer.com/products/typedetail.aspx?image=PTT0000041#specimen

If you live or work in Barcelona and you are interested on this project, please contact me via Typophile or for this e-mail: nuno AT estudipuk DOT com

UPDATE-----------------------------

Ok, change of plans, the number of invitations just raised to the point that it’s not possible to wright everyone’s name on the invitation so basically now anyone can help even if you’re in china.

So Here is the Brief:

- We need a nice text for something close to 500 characters for an invitation.
- The style of the text we need is similar to:
this one: http://www.veer.com/products/typedetail.aspx?image=PTT0000041#specimen
or this one: http://www.veer.com/products/typedetail.aspx?image=UMT0000104

Basically we’re searching for the type of style of a writer from the XIX century, something that isn’t totally perfect, that is warm and human.

If you want to make it an effective selection process, what I’ll need will be:

- How much will you charge for this work
- 2 samples of a phrase. One with the style we are looking for, and other in case you have a style that fit’s this project and you feel more comfortable about.

the sample phrase is: “Jackdaws love my big sphinx of quartz.”

Send it to: nuno AT estudipuk DOT com

thanks alot :)

I don't know if any of them do calligraphy, but I know of three type design firms in Barcelona: Emtype, Eduardo Manso's foundry; Textaxis; and TypeRepublic.

See what you can get out of this site. The group in Madrid has a dysfunctional site.

Thank's guys, but it seems like they are regular type designers. As for the ALcaçar website... oh man.. its a caos :D i didn't found anything about calligraphers but seems to me that these guys are all about medieval stuff and not quite the style im looking for. :(

See if Ricardo Rousselot can find you a calligrapher - he is probably either too busy or too expensive but very good:

Don't know anyone. but this is a handy resource for finding calligraphers.

I think you might want to ask them to try and replicate a sample first as a lot of calligraphers tend to just do standard calligraphic hands since their main work source is usually invitations, envelope addressing, etc. I've had to replicate that style a bit now and then for greeting cards, but I have to retain a higher degree of legibility. But, unfortunately, I am quite far from Barcelona.

Thanks for your help guys, I'll try to contact those guys.

I already got some reply's but from people out of Barcelona. The thing is, we need people from here cus, there will be the text that we will reproduce in offset, and there will be a couple of invitations that will need to have the invited guy's name written for real.

to Joel - Siga lá e quando estiveres cá vamos tomar algo :D

Nuno,
Are you looking for lettering to be printed or are you needing a completely hand done piece? I do a fair amount of this type of work for reproduction. I have some samples at work I could show of this. Also I've created a font in that same vein also on the Veer site.

yeah Stephen, I need a handwritten text that will be later reproduced, but your "memoir" is pretty neat indeed, great job. At this point we are working to sell the design and concept with a true handwritten text, we will only think about using a type if the client wont accept our proposal.

Again, great Job Stephen, i really enjoyed your font

UPDATE

Ok so we already know what path the client choose, and unfortunately it isn't the calligraphic one :( He did liked the concept but he doesn't want to use it on this particular piece so we are basically saving it to another job.

Thanks you guys and girls, I will save your contacts and samples for future reference :)
