I know the name of the fonts I'm looking for but not where to find them
Hi, I’m looking for a few fonts; Addie, Anna, Bella, Claire, Rozzie, Ryan, Simply Stacy and Stylish Extended, image of them and a few else found here http://www.stacyclaireboyd.com/downloads/Typestyles.pdf but however hard I’ve searched the internet I’m unable to find where I can buy any of them. Pleeeeease can someone help me?

Hi Petra,
where do these fonts come from?
You cannot find them because their names have been changed. Those names are pseudonyms. For example, Camille actually is Avant Garde Gothic, Bertram is Copperplate Gothic. Hell, someone even has bothered to rename Comic Sans: It’s ‘Childish’!
Claire is actually MeMimas by Type-Ø-Tones.

Addie is Amelie.
Bella is Bickley Script.
Rozzie is Rosa Love.
Ryan is Gasoline Alley.
Stylish Extended is Bernhard Fashion.
I don’t know ‘Anna’ and ‘Simply Stacy’.

Thanks so much for your quick reply! I was so sure that these were the “real” names as I have seen the same description for them on several different websites... strange. I guess they are trying to make it difficult for a competitor like myself to copy their style.

Yes, maybe. That’s lame. (Don’t they know that there’s always the Typophile Type ID Board? ;-))
However, in some (probably most) cases, this practice is not okay. Modifications like renaming are often prohibited by the foundry’s EULA.

This is such a random post... haha! Why change the names?

Word of advice — avoid these wannabes and get the originals. Using pirated type is bad for your karma. For every letter you set in those rip-offs somewhere in the world a cute cuddly kitten dies.

Yves, to clarify:
As far as I understand the issue, Petra has found this dubious PDF on the website of an American company, Stacy Claire Boyd.
She didn’t make it, and has stated that she’s looking for a place to buy the fonts.
I reckon these fonts are not ‘rip-offs’, but rather renamed originals. This of course might be a violation of the EULA(s), but it’s not (necessarily) pirated type. Either way, Petra’s not the pirate.

OMG! Does this mean that by using ‘Childish’ aka Comic Sans, a kitten dies AND a bunny gets punched?

Oops! Forgot to add the smiley!!! Sorry if I sounded as if I reprimanded you, that certainly wasn’t the case. I had correctly understood your intentions; I was just making a wee joke. ;^)
Florian, I always use “pirated” and “rip-off” in either way of the word, be it simply renamed over autotraced to redrawn typefaces. ;^)

No, in that specific case it’s even worse: the bunnies simply commit suicide.

I’m pretty sure “Allison” is Albemarle.
I don’t know what “Anna” is, but it reminds me of the default “Script” printer font that came with my Windows. lol.

Basically, I’m with you. But doesn’t it make a difference whether someone actually sells (or distributes) those renamed fonts, or just shows them in his/her greeting cards repertoire? I find the latter overanxious, shortsighted and wrong. Still, it shouldn’t be lumped together with the things SSI etc. do.

The term ’pirate’ has been used incorrectly for so long that it now pretty much refers to copying in any form.

It might be an idea to agree on a set of fixed definitions and include them in the TypoWiki. So, what is what? (I am not a native speaker, so don’t look at me. :^P)
