Can I put a script font on a curved baseline?

Is it possible to take a script font and put it on a curved baseline? Or is that done with hand-lettering only?

it depends on the script font ... I tried it with a few different examples and got varying results.

did you have a specific script in mind?

here’s a brief overview of Type on a Path

This is just one of those try-it-and see sort of things. It can work when the curve doesn’t overwhelm the type, ie. small type on large circle.

I don’t have a script in mind, I was just wondering if any happened to be particularly suited to the task. I’m imagining connectors (is there a better name for that bit of font anatomy?) jutting all about and not doing much connecting.

some fonts, such as Bickham Script, doesn’t work well because it has delicate pothooks that connect on both right and left side of a glyph.

Radio, from Magnus Rakeng, has a thicker, right-side-only pothook that joins at the stem.

So Radio seems to work fairly well. (www.vllg.com)

It can never hurt to try some lettering — gives you the advantage of customizing each particular letter combination.

best of luck.

Forget the font. Draw it!

Or Fit Text to Path in CorelDraw as I did with my Flower Crosswords:

If Pdxuser is a PDFUser also, then try exploiting the postscript editor?!
