Hi all,

Does such a thing as a nice PDF exists anywhere which I can show Those With Money in an attempt to get a possible purchase?

Myriad lists of the contents, but I’m after a simple “font name printed in the typeface” kind of thing.

Cheers,

n

Here’s the Myriad Pro Specimen book which is set completely in Myriad
http://store1.adobe.com/type/browser/pdfs/MyriadPro.pdf

If you look at all the fonts, they should all come with their own specimen book, set in that font’s family.

You can even enter your own text (up to 22 characters) and then print the screen out.

Okay, I misspoke, there are only specimen books for Garamond, Arno, Brioso, Calcite, Myriad, Silentium, Tekton and Warnock.

I guess the only complete visual library that’s printed is this:
https://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&view=ols_p...

and it’s $50.

Thanks Asvetic,

It’s just I do seem to vaguely remember a nice PDF of an older - much, 8? - Folio edition.

Besides, if I’m trying to get those who can to spend money on a significant purchase, I’d assume Adobe would have a PDF sampler for prospective customers to have a look at, and not pay for...

Actually, for anyone interested in a such a thing I found this: http://cg.scs.carleton.ca/~luc/FontFolio9.pdf - not the one I’d previously seen, but it may do a turn.

WARNING: 20mb+ file...

Monotype (and many other sites) sell the complete Adobe font catalogue, too. They put together a printed catalog listing all of the fonts in their Adobe collection a few years ago. It might now be 100% up to date (i.e., Arno Pro and Hypatia Sans might not be inside it), but I’ll be it is close.

I can’t find the PDF of this catalogue on Fonts.com or Linotype’s website, but FontShop Germany’s got it. It is 21 MB. Please look at this; it should be far more up to dat than the PDF on Luc’s site – http://www.fontshop.de/news/pdf/Adcat_Final.pdf

Up until sometime in the mid-90s, Adobe had the dandiest little catalogues they would send you with nearly every product or font you bought. You’d have the type, a few lines, and most important of all, the package number — only if you have the package number can you quickly find the folder you want on Font Folio. Then, for some reason nobody could ever figure out, they revised them to delete the package numbers, making them almost useless. Then they stopped printing them at all. In those days too they had the Font & Function magazine, which came out quarterly and was available to practically every registered customer.

Adobe can unquestionably afford to make these products again, and they certainly sold a lot more fonts in those days. They made it so much easier to find a type or just browse and get interested in a type. Lots of corporate customers who had little interest in type bought type because of Font & Function. I find these resources infinitely more valuable than pdfs.

AFAIK Adobe doesn’t have a comprehensive printed specimen along the lines of, say, Font Bureau or Canada Type, but their specimen books for Arno and Garamond Premier are superb, and obviously descended from the little white covered catalogues Bill refers to. I also recall a pocket-sized booklet they produced fairly recently on OpenType which showed a lot of their faces, so they may have something appropriate available. Thomas, Miguel?

Doesn’t the Adobe Type Library Reference Book, already mentioned above, qualify as a printed specimen? It’s currently in its 3rd edition, and can be obtained from Amazon, Peachpit or Adobe Press, both in paper and PDF format. The cover price of the printed edition is, US $44.99, Canada $48.99, UK £31.99

In addition, Glyph Complement PDF files of each font family and each individual font are available from the Adobe Type Store. These don’t show text settings, but they allow to see and print all the glyphs of every font in high resolution.

Here are a couple of files from the Arno Pro family,

Thanks for bringing me up to speed on this Miguel.

Adobe Type Library Reference Book

Is this the same as the “Font Folio 11 Type Reference Guide” advertised at the Adobe web site?

Yes, it’s essentially the same.
