Don’t know the font (I somehow always assumed it was Gotham, but never checked for sure), but the band is playing in a pouring rain not far from my home now. They’re pretty noisy, REM should be even noisier later on.
I think the idea that the S is from a different font seems to explain why its width doesn’t fit the other letters very well (in my opinion). However, I think the S from Century Gothic has too small a lower bowl/counter. I would pick the type that it was based on — Futura.

Not really enough letters to be sure, but possibly House Neutraface 2.

R & S are both wrong.
Not sure of the ’typo lingo’ but the R is too high and the S is too broad

More letters can be seen in this album cover

It is close to Gotham but the S is very wrong for it to be Gotham

Could it be small caps of some font? Not Gotham, I just checked.
That S seems very narrow compared to the other letters.

It isn’t Avenir either.

Would still like to know this...

The Neutraface No. 2 light fonts are close.

Just not close enough...

I think this might be Gotham mixed with the skinnier S from Whitney. I tried it out on the H&FJ typetester and it looks pretty similar.

Upon closer inspection, it doesn’t appear to be either Gotham or Neutraface, or a blending of the two.
Top: Neutraface Light
Middle: Gotham Light
Bottom: Logo
Whatever it is, it’s really nice.

I can’t fathom a guess right now, but it’s very Morris Bentonesque. http://www.fontbureau.com/historical/MorrisBenton

The S looks like Century Gothic to me.

Asvetic, No one said it was neutraface. people said it may have been neutraface2, Which is almost exactly correct except for the S.
I’m with mike in thinking that the S is from a different font.
If you look at the album art I posted, the A is not the same as the A in Neutraface2.
which means the A may be from another font

It’s not Neutraface2 either.
The E and D are shorter and the R is higher in Neutraface2.

I’m completely stumped as to what it is now.
All I know is that the S is almost definitly from another font

Has anyone tried to contact the designer or someone from the Editors. I think this would be a worthwhile inquiry.
