hey everybody

I’m having a little trouble in fontlab, when i draw a path , say a circle, the path won’t close when trying to connect the points.

maybe to explain myself a bit better

i draw 4 points A,B,C,D ,(circle) the line between D and A don’t connect/close...

can someone maybe help me out here please

thnx for all the help

Select the point “D” and drag it to the top of “A”. Or select point “D” and do a “contour”—->”close contour”.
Hope that helps.

hey Afonseca, thnx for you’re reply

what you suggested works but normally i just use my pen tool for this without going trough the trouble of going to contour->close contour.

when i want to connect my last point to my first point normally there appears this little circle on my start point, i click it et voila...i get a closed path...just like in say illustrator...

A few things:
•This only works with the “Drawing” pen tool. The others require you to manually close the path. Probably because they aren’t meant for drawing complete shapes.
•Zoom in a little more and make sure that you’re clicking right on the point. The cursor will have a circle over it when positioned to close the path.
•Sometimes closing paths just doesn’t work right and you just have to keep moving the points over each other again and again until it works.

Also... if its not closing turn on font audit and it will give you a fix arrow where the 2 points are. I use a wacom intuos tablet as well and the sensitivity levels for FontLab can be a bit wacky at times.

hey thnx for all the replys people, i really appreciate it, but here’s the thing...the circle that should appear when the cursor is positioned to close the path just doesn’t show up all i keep getting is the “+” no “°”

i’m using the “drawing” pen tool and zoomed in as close as possible...i’m sure i positioned the cursor right on the point since the “+”keeps appearing ive tryed it a hundred times but no luck

when fontaudit is on i get “contour looks to be closed but is marked as open, close the contour or click fix”

ofcourse when i click fix it closes the contour but thats the only way possible to close the contour at the moment...no way possible to do this with the drawing pen tool and it should...

At this point I would make sure you still have your serial number, uninstall 5.0, and reinstall 5.04. If that doesn’t fix it, open a support ticket with Fontlab.

hey james, here’s the weird thing

i uninstalled it...did a fresh install...same problem....installed fontlab on my other computer, works like a charm.

for some reason the close contour function as explained doesn’t work from my workstation.

and its really weird because a few weeks ago everything was working fine.

i must have reinstalled it for like 20 times now, still no luck

It seems that you have a bad preferences file that needs to be deleted. I don’t know where they’re kept on Windows, but the locations of those files should be in the Fontlab manual.

hey james thnx for all the help man,

mmm....tryed looking in the manual but i can’t find anything on the subject pfff what a load of trouble.

i did a windows system restore, must have re-installed font lab for like 20 times...i was getting afraid that i would have to do a complete new windows install just to get it to work

does anyone know where those preferences files are in windows and what exact file to remove..

ok guys i figured it out, James you were wright about the files that needed to be deleted.

just in case someone else might have the same problem -> i first removed fontlab 5, did a restart -> open “run” (windows) type “regedit” click ok, next go to HK_CURRENT USER software, search for fontlab and delete the entire folder -> did a restart again -> fresh fontlab 5 install et voila...working

thnx for all the help and tips
