Text Column gutter width formula

Is there a certain rule or formula to creating a perfect gutter between my text columns using Indesign?
I once heard that you should keep your gutter at the same width as your leading/baseline, is this true?
Below are my settings.

FONT: Whitney
SIZE: 7.5
LEADING/BASELINE: 9
GUTTER WIDTH: 0.125

There might be some rule of thumb out there, but this really isn't all that hard to figure out. You just need to make it clear where lines end and where they start. Apart from that, it's really a question of style.

I think the sample you've shown is good. So if you've followed your rule for that then I say go with it.
