I found this on a Geico (insurance) flyer of all places.
Can anybody tell me what it is?

Karen, please, that was a fairly easy one. ;)

And 21 minutes is kinda slow compared to the high standards we uphold on this trusty board. I've seen Stephen fire away like madman on numerous occasions, and we do have ID's within a couple of minutes. Check some other threads, you'll see.

Bald Condensed's picture

Some stats to back up my bragging:

"Observer MAGAZINE" Eric Olson, today, 16 min.
"Looks easy" myself, today, 9 min. (it was easy though)
"Font ID" Stephen Coles, January 21, 6 min.
"One last ID..." Stephen Coles, that same day, 2 friggin' min.! and Cheshiredave 5 min.!
"EUROPIPE ???" myself, January 20, 11 min.
"Big t" Tiffany Wardle, January 17, 10 min.

And all that thanks to e-mail notification! Mine is set up at a frequency of 9 minutes (I also have work to do, yaknow) ;)

hrant's picture

Actually, 21 minutes is pathetic.
Stephen must have been washing his chicken.

Damn right. And what I don't get: he's so incredibly fast, but he never even breaks a sweat, man! I mean, look at his picture! He always looks calm, composed, totally relaxed... How does he do it?!

Bald Condensed's picture

See, I told you! Look! He doesn't even take off his hat, allthough it's murder to his aerodynamics!

hrant's picture

Hey, that's a great idea.
There would have to be some kind of flag that the orignal requester would have to set indicating "Font Identified", and any threads that still have the flag unset after let's say one week would go into a special section.
But then the moderator would need to occasionally set the flag himself, if the originator flakes. So maybe instead the originator should have to actively set a flag (but not sooner than a week) saying "Not Yet Identified", and then it would move to the special section. Yeah, that's better. Although the moderator will still have to unset the flag himself once in a while.

Bald Condensed's picture

Um, Karen... actually I am kinda "pixley".

About the flagging, it is something to be considered. I suggested it to Stephen a little while ago, when I did a general check-up of all the ID's to see if I could tie up any loose ends.

The one thing that bugged me is that so many people use

Bald Condensed's picture

Stephen, you've got our vote of confidence. This temporary system is a small step for you, but a giant leap for... whatever.

It's a dirty job, but we're happy you're doing it for us. ;)

hrant's picture

Stephen, you da man.

Karen, I already did a couple of checks, and the true identities of both faces remain a mistery... The closest I got for the script was Mistral because of the connectors and the line quality, but that's still quite far off. I can assure you, it's not that we don't care, we just can't find them.

Damn right, Hrant, I know why the powers that be appointed him sheriff of this dirty ole town.

hrant's picture

> and the bond girls themselves

No, Karen, let me take care of that, please. After my failure at ID-ing the font, I feel terribly guilty, so it's the least I can do...

New addition to the Typophile Hall of Friggin' Fast Type ID's

"Unknown Script" Tiffany Wardle, today, 3 min.!!!

Way to go, Tiff! And watch yo' hiney, Stephen. Girl Power!

P.S. Kewl! This forum has an fully automatized self-censorial functionalithingy. I had to change ••• into a childish word for it to appear! Red dots rewl.

Karen, you certainly don't need to check the forum every five minutes. Just edit your profile to enable Email Notification, and select those item(s) for which you wish to receive an automatic e-mail message from this discussion board. If you select Type Identification Board, every time your e-mail app picks up your e-mail, it will also check for any new Type ID posts. Set the frequency of your e-mail app to 5 minutes, then you'll be able to react fast.

Welcome to the hunt.

If you see a particularly funny or worthy post, rate 5 stars. If you think someone's just BSing, rate 1 star. Usually people like Hrant, Stephen and some others get lotsa stars, because they can be informative and funny at the same time, while anonimous posters in heated discussions are more likely to collect 1 star when they're just kicking around and adding nothing to the discussion.

Personally I think it's a pretty silly idea to go rating posts on a message board, but then again I'm kinda partial to silly ideas. And it helps when you've got too much time on your hands. ;P

Oh, and the photo is just optional, you know. You can always add one later on. Go activate that e-mail notification and join the fray!

> Just don't forget to ask about the font.

Font? Sorry, you've totally lost me.
;-)

> start up page

Huh, there's other pages?

> I think it's a pretty silly idea

Well, it could work and be useful, but it isn't, because it's abused in contentious threads, plus there's no way to search/sort the stuff. A simple binary, positive-only, searchable "recommend" would be much better.

Miss Tiffany's picture

Karen, for this font you might try Spring from Agfa.

flow14's picture

Does this win the prize for the longest off-topic
post ever?

Bald Condensed's picture

Nope, check the Swedish Chicken thread ;)

We do get carried away once in a while, I have to admit. After a while I started to feel sorry for the original poster. But we did try to help, honest!

hrant's picture

What's wrong with having a little fun?
Stephen ID-ed the thing in 20 minutes, the rest is history [in the making].

anonymous's picture

In the grand total of 21 mins! Is this the fastest font ID ever or what?

Jared Benson's picture

Those other font-ID sites can't hold a candle to our speed-demons.

I can see the shingle now: "Stephen Coles, Type Bounty Hunter for hire"

Stephen Coles's picture

Hehehe. Yves, you brighten my Friday. Thanks.

anonymous's picture

Yeah, I gotta take that back. Looks like 2mins is the record.

Yves, I think you should consider using a jpg for your pix instead of a gif... you look kinda "pimply" or more to be accurate, "pixley".

You know what, Scoles, I think we should move all the unidentified fonts to a separate thread like so that it stays up there and more people can have a crack at it.

What do the rest think?

anonymous's picture

I haven't thought about how it could be done technically. I just thought that maybe Scoles could check through the posts and move the ones that are still unidentified to a new thread. It could just be left in the same thread even when it's identified. Then we know which were the hard ones.

That'll keep him busy for a while and the rest of you hopefully will get to score more IDs.

Also, pixelman, it's not that hard to figure out the ones that are unidentified. They usually have a very small number of posts. Like 2 or 3.

Hrant's idea is much more sophisticated. But I suspect it'll take a while to implement. And I don't want to wait that long for my posts to get a second chance at being identified.

Fyi, they are here and here. :-P

Stephen Coles's picture

Ok, you belly-achers! I've set up a temporary system for
marking completed IDs. An (x) prefix will be added to
thread names and they'll get a paperclipped icon. For now,
I'm the only one who can make these changes, but I think it
might work. I'll keep an eye on useless subject names too.

And yeah, someday I'll pull out all the oldies that are still
unidentified flying font objects and push them to the top
of the forum list.

Thanks for your patience. I'm still making up this moderator
bit as I go. I appreciate the nice ideas.

anonymous's picture

Yipee! Thanks thanks thanks!

But I think the unidentified fonts should have their very own folder, just like the archived items. Otherwise they may push the more current identification requests too far down the list.

Btw Scoles, I can't resist asking, do you have any ideas on the two fonts that I posted? Does anyone?

anonymous's picture

Thanks Yves. Hopefully I'll see them in the new catalogues that I ordered. There's a chance the bond font could be in indiefonts. Fingers crossed.

I might also email the corp comm department of the tourism board and the bond girls themselves. When I get round to it. See if they bother to reply.

I have to agree it looks sooo much like Mistral, but for the Cap S or the g.

anonymous's picture

Go get them here, Hrant. Just don't forget to ask about the font.

Yves: Bummer! Missed my chance to score my very first ID. I knew that Carpenter type!!!! I used it for a namecard. From now on I am going to check this forum every five minutes. Or should I make it my start up page?

But Tiffany's awfully GOOD though. Especially these days.... What's her secret?

anonymous's picture

Oh yes, I'll get around to that. Gotta find a fierce looking photo. Finding out new stuff about this board every day. What are the votes are for? I know I read an explanation somewhere but....

anonymous's picture

Thanks Tiff. Mistral is even closer, but I am looking for the exact match. It has become a bit of an obsession. :-)
