Probably custom. There are few designs in this segment. Another custom face that is popping up here and there called Fashion Thin is similar, but it’s not very good. I’m working on something similar as well, but I never seem to get around to finishing it.
but also the I (in QUI) that melts together with L (in MAL) that made me think it was handpainted..
y'see.. I had a girlfriend once (yes.. it is true!!) who made me paint texts on T-shirts for her like this one. MENSCH! that was hard work.. however the bonus was when she took of the T-shirts.. so I should not complain.
I think I've found it:
Stark Debonair, from Robert Stark in 1975, via the VGC foundry.
Apparently not available digitally, unless someone knows something I don't.
Really cool design... http://e-daylight.jp/design/fonts/type/s/stark-debonair.html
Thank you William for your advice about Young Finesse... it looks really nice.
Frode... your typeface that's similar to this is really sweet (is it called Noir?)
I hope you finish it someday, it's so graceful and beautiful!

It’s not very well optically adjusted, but I don’t think it’s hand painted.

Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know of anything similar I could buy?

it was the left part of the P

It looks as if someone starved Peignot and then customized the Q and the P.

Look in the right column. It's available in a digital form... click the link to "Retro Super Skinny" for a free version. ;)

You might also be interested in Young Finesse, which looks great when very large.

I love that kind of type, it might not be very practical but it's deliciously stylish!
I've also been working on something like this but I'm no expert yet so it takes a LOT of time to "perfect"...
